A boy who literally could not defend himself, who could not even talk to try to object to this behavior. I personally just cannot fathom how a person could take advantage of someone who has no ability to fight back. Martin's testimony shows the disgusting nature of the home he was living in. Martin's hardship is possibly as bad as it can get. Being alive and able to comprehend everything around you, but not being able to respond is torturous at best. This would drive me insane. On top of his medical condition he was abused by caretakers. He ends up marrying the one nurse who actually cares for him. Martin probably struggled with the idea of marrying a nurse. Martin probably also had a very hard time opening up to his wife after being abused so early on in life.
