From the Republic of Turkey's declaration in 1923 to the present.
The advancement of foreign language instruction during this time has been quite fast. The "Unification of Education Law," passed on March 3, 1924, brought all educational activities in the nation under one umbrella for the first time. This legislation requires inspections of international institutions.
Additionally, opening additional institutions was prohibited.
Arabic and Persian, which were primarily taught in pre-Republic educational facilities, were supplanted by German, French, and English with the Law of Unification of Education.

The Turkish Alphabet Revolution is the term given to the process of accepting the "Law on the Adoption and Application of Turkish Letters" numbered 1353 on November 1, 1928 in Turkey and putting the new script. After being released in the Official Gazette on November 3rd, 1928, the legislation became operative. The Ottoman alphabet based on Arabic letters, which had been in use up until that point, was officially abolished with the passing of this legislation, and the Turkish alphabet based on Latin letters took its place and schools were secularized. [2]

Meetings to debate national education problems are held every four years by the Board of Education and Discipline. In the early years of the Republic, ignorance was a bigger issue than teaching foreign languages, so it took a back seat. [2]

Among the other state secondary institutions, Anatolian high schools have a unique standing. Since the opening of the first Anatolian High School in 1955, these institutions have been viewed as the key to gaining admission to illustrious colleges and, consequently, a wealthy future. In contrast to the other state institutions, a centralized entrance test is a requirement to enroll in Anatolian High School. These Anatolian High Schools aim at meetingthe demands of families who desire foreign language instruction for their children but couldnot afford private school education. In these schools, students get a four-year education withan intensive first year English courses. [2],[3]

The "Private Education Law" of 1965 made it legal to establish institutions that offer foreign language instruction. Twelve recognized secondary schools that offered foreign language courses existed in 1975; 23 such institutions existed in 1983. With the establishment of Anatolian High Schools, Science High Schools, Super High Schools, and Private Schools over the ensuing years, the number of schools offering foreign language instruction or allocating more space to such programs continued to rise.

Turkish was the primary method of teaching until the school was transformed into a "college" in 1953 along with the other Maarif schools as part of the Turkicizing initiative. Science and mathematics have been taught in these schools alongside the rigorous language and literature instruction as a separate subject up until this point, despite the Treaty of Lausanne's prohibition on teaching humanities in a foreign language in these institutions. Currently, the Maarif colleges are managed by a state organization called the Turkish Education organization. [2]

English instruction policies at all educational levels experienced a number of basic adjustments in the Turkish educational system in 1997. The MONE's attempts to reform Turkey's long-neglected ELT practice led to these adjustments, which were reported in The Journal of Language and Linguistic Studies. The "Ministry of Education Development Project" reform, which promoted efficient English instruction in both public and private institutions across the nation, was first implemented. According to the 1997 curriculum, the primary goal of secondary English education is to enhance students' fundamental communicative abilities through the merging of the four skills, enabling students to participate in fruitful conversation in the target language. Since the "communicative" method was first incorporated into the ELT curriculum in 1997, the 1997 curriculum can be seen as a turning point in the history of English language instruction in Turkey.
