Lisa wakes up to her mom screaming at her dad and runs out of her room. She and her parents are looking out the window and they are worried that her brother is not happy. On the way out he doesn't grab his book bag so lisa goes to the kitchen to grab it and she sees her mom crying, she wants to help but her dad signals her away, she then grabs her brother as her brother is there waiting. She starts to walk to school and leaflets are dropped on the streets and that's when she figures out Denmark has been taken by Nazi Germany. Then on the way to school Lisa meets up with her cousin and friend Erik, Lisa then asks Erik about the situation and then they start talking about the rumors about what is happening to Jewish people in Germany and how they are disappearing. She gets to school and her teacher starts to cry so lisa and her friend pass notes during class.

how many German soldiers are in Denmark

have any Jews been taken
yes
how many jews have been taken
464 from denmark
how many jewish people in her class

because she is so interested in fighting the germans she might join or form a group to fight back.

I think Lisa's parents might get taken or her friends might.

I don't know how I would act if Mr. Moss or any of my teachers for that matter started to cry.

Lisa can't sleep. All she can think about are the Germans so she starts to think back to happier times when her, her dad and his friends family went on a ride in the friends boat when there were blue skies and were they all had fun. the Germans order the danish people to black out their windows so the allies don't bomb them and if the germans see light they will shoot up the house. Lisa overhears her parents arguing about if her dad should treat the jewish patience. Lisa's family invites her family to the seder dinner were they start talking about rumors about what is happening to the jewish in Austria and Germany and it turns into a heated debate Lisa asked her seder questions but know one gave acknowledgement to her. Lisa and her family stop reading the paper because it's run by Germany and they start listening to the BBC on the radio because that tells them what is actually happening. Lisa hears her mom and dad arguing and she comes up with an idea about how her dad could make the Germans sick without them knowing.

Vocabulary
-seder
A religious meal served by jewish people to commence the festival of passover.

- Matzah
Matzah is type of bread that is served with a jewish cuisine

Theme connections
When I was little my family and I went to the netherlands to visit family and we went on a sail boat which was a fun experience so when Lisa says she had a great time on a sailboat I can understand why

Predictions
I think Lisa's dad is going to follow through with the plan that she gave him.

I think her dad and mom but specifically her dad is going to get found out and get taken to a concentration camp.

I think her dad or both her mom and dad getting taken is going to spark the start of Lisa joining the resistance.

Questions
Will her family get taken to camps
no they escaped to Sweden
will the germans shoot up there home because of some light
no
how long before Lisa joins the resistance
chapter 4 is where she joins chapter 5 is where she starts her first mission
Links
https://www.chabad.org/holidays/passover/pesach_cdo/aid/1751/jewish/What-Is-a-Seder-Passover-Meal.htm

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackout_(wartime)

Personal thoughts
I think Lisa's Idea about what her dad should do to the Germans is good because there will be less Germans to fight against and their disease might spread through trenches but bad because if the Germans find out Lisa's dad and maybe her family will get transported to concentration camps.

I noticed subtle hints about Lisa joining the resistance little phrases that the book has like " I wish there was something I could do" little lines like that, that don't need to be added but are because it hints to something coming up.

The chapter starts off with Lisa and Stefan arguing if Lisa should join the resistance. Lisa talks about how she will do it alone if Stefan wont let her join Stefan asks how and Lisa gives good ideas on how she will do it alone if Stefan doesn't let her join. Stefan thinks about how she won't be effective and how dangerous it is alone. Stefan says he'll put in a good word for Lisa. The next day Erik and Lisa arrive at school to find barbed wire around the yard and men in uniforms, they don't know the language they speak. They give the prisoners an apple the prisoner smiles with no teeth, the guard yells at them. They go to the front and their teacher tells them to go to another school. Lisa says it's full and the teacher said she will meet them there. There are tons of kids there and it is in utter chaos. Lisa and Erik find Sussan and they wait for the teacher to show. When the teacher shows up she shows them to their class. Lisa goes home with a bunch of homework but she does none of it and the only thing she does is wait for Stefan to come home. When he comes home she tries to catch his eyes but she doesn't. after dinner she followed Stefan to his room and he confirmed that he was successful.
Why I liked the book and Why I didn't

Why I liked the book, I liked the book because it was interesting and I learned about Jewish culture and history like rosh hashanah which I most likely would not have learned about if not for the book. The book was very detailed and told a great story on how it was to live in a German occupied country in World War II it was very interesting with all the details and kept me interested. What I didn't like about the book was it was slow at the start and then went fast at the end which was kind of annoying but not too bad. I didn't like how Lisa went to put a gun under the floorboard and found more guns under it, it never went anywhere which was also annoying because now I want to know who it belonged to.

In my opinion it was a good book not one that I wouldn't read again because some of the points in the book rely on surprise like Lisa burning which gave me chills and if I read the book again it wouldn't be as good because I wouldn't get those chills which for me was part of the experience of reading the book, if I knew the dad was going to kill himself and his family my eyes wouldn't open and make me more invested in the book it would just be a small side part.
