Thoughts on Remix Culture ?

When I heard the words remix culture I thought of 'Pitch Perfect' because in all the movies they use other artists music and combine them with each other to make it there own. From what I researched on remix culture it looked like it was just music being added to just a video just to add curiousness on why the song was added. Remix culture is actually sometimes read-write culture, is a society that allows and encourages derivative works by combining or editing existing materials to produce a new product. There are a lot of songs that I listen to that have been remixed and some of them I can say that they sound really good but there are some that do not sound that best and should've just kept the original one. Some songs are not really a big hit when they first come out so what I have noticed is that the artist will make a remix of the song to make it a hit. I have looked up remix cultures on YouTube because I wanted to know more about it the videos are like of a song that kind of goes with a video but is not in tempo with each other.

When I watched this video it made me thing that this is what remix culture is . Which in fact it is what remix culture is. The little videos within the video is of someone either singing or dancing to something and whom ever edited the video put a different song to play because it correlated with what was happening. In the video is shows that in the early years remix culture was defined by soundtracks, remixes, mashups, commentary's, parody's, bloopers, character appropriation, and fun tributes.

This is an example of how I said that some artist make a song and then decide to later remix it. When this song first came it the song only had Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee. The song sounded so good, I could listen to it all day ( mainly because they would play it so many times on the station that I listen to). A couple months after the song came out I heard it on KISSFM and i was so confused because it is a Spanish song and KISSFM is a station for English music. When I heard the beat drop was just like okay maybe they're starting something new. All of a sudden I hear Justin start singing the song and I was so mad because I was so good already and now they added Justin which I really did not like. I have nothing against Justin I just did not like him being added.

Do you think that if you manipulate an existing song enough you can eventually claim it as your own creation?Where do you draw the line between copying and creating?

The only way you can calm a song to be your own creation is if you change the song completely or if you write the song. For example, 'Party in the USA' by Miley Cyrus is technically not Mileys song because she did not write the song. Jessie J is the one who actually wrote the song for her so that makes the creator of it. Another song that has been sung so many times by many different artist is the song "I will always love you", many people may think that the one who wrote the song was Whitney Houston because she was the one that everyone would talk about but the actual creator of the song was Dolly Parton. There are so many songs out there that have not been discovered of the actual creator because of how much artist take credit for some of the songs.

The picture below correlates with my example because Dolly Parton is the little girl because she is doing it first and Whitney Houston is the dog because the dog is copying what the girl is doing. I am basically saying that Whitney Houston took Dolly Partons song and did the same thing with it, sang it and became a really good singer for the song.
