Another brilliant week in Willow Class 🤩

We love our Cricket sessions with Jo on a Tuesday and the children have been developing their batting and throwing and catching skills 🏏

We enjoyed a magical Forest School session when we were welcomed into the Forest by Fairies 🧚🧚🏼‍♂️ The children enjoyed a Fairy Door Hunt, and a Fairy Number Hunt 🧚🏼‍♂️🔢 🚪 🧚

We then designed and created our own Fairy Doors using natural resources from in the forest 🌿

In preparation for the transition to Year One, we are all sitting at the same time now to complete our handwriting 📝 and also our sentence writing. I am very proud of all of the children 🤩

We have been continuing to use non-fiction books to find out information linked to our theme of "Where in the World?" The children are getting so good at using the books to find out information about specific things. We have also been developing our questioning skills by asking each other questions and using the non-fiction books to help us to find out the answer ❔

Within our "Where in the World?" we are enjoying some Expressive Arts and Design with singing songs and stories. "We all Go Travelling By" 🚌 🚲 🚛 and "The Magic Train Ride" 🚂 🧚🍰 are two of our favourites 🎶 Next week we are going to be using musical instruments to accompany the songs 🥁 🪇

Another exciting week in Cherry Class! We have enjoyed cricket again with coach Jo, fine tuning our batting and throwing skills 🏏

We are approaching the end of our class text ‘Grandad’s Secret Giant’ and have enjoyed discussing the role we all have in making others feel welcome and like they belong. This has linked wonderfully into our RE unit and our upcoming transient is into new classes for September ❤️

In RE, we have discussed different groups/clubs that we belong to in and out of school and what it means to belong. We have then started to learn about Christian baptism and why parents may choose this for their children and also why adults may choose to be baptised. We read the bible story about Saint John the Baptist too 📖 🌊

In maths, Y1 and Y2 have been working together on our fractions unit. This week we have learned about splitting the whole into equal parts using vocabulary like half, quarters and thirds 🧮

This week we have been searching for the ants and their letter sounds because the anteater in our story has lost them! They've been hiding under and on top and inside things in our outdoor area. See if you can hide items at home and play at using vocabulary such as under and on, in and behind!

In Maths we have been looking at odd and even numbers again with the help of the odd blocks and even tops from Numberblocks then putting them into groups. We have also been starting to look at numbers up to 100 with our older pupils.

Our Cedar Class children have been enjoying lots of sensory play in the afternoons this week - bubbles, 'sand' and nice cold water.

It's going to be another warm one towards the end of the week so don't forget changes of clothes and suncream plus water bottles as always!

We have been continuing our work on Macbeth, and then moving onto a Midsummer Night's Dream-looking at the Fairy King and Queen and writing relative clauses for description.

In maths we have been continuing with our Multiplication moving onto 4 digit by 2 digit-really tricky stuff but the children have been putting in so much effort.

In Geography, we have been learning about how the UK generates its energy, and comparing that to how the USA generate their energy - it has been a really interesting topic learning about renewable and non-renewable energy resources.

In British Values, we looked at censuses, and what questions we would like to ask if we were to have one in school.

Finally, we are fully into World Cup mode now, with our class sweepstake heating up as we head into the last 16. Will England get past Mexico?

Daily Reminder - as the weather is getting warmer children need to have sun cream applied at home (we recommend a minimum SPF30) this should then be sent into school to be re-applied if needed. They will also need to bring in a hat and water bottle. Please ensure all items are named.

We have 1 unit in Runcorn every Wednesday 18:00-19:00, badger units are for children aged 5-9 years old.

Whilst at St John Ambulance all badgers will learn first aid throughout the year as well as other topics e.g. performance badger, eco badger, community badger and caring badger to name a few. Each topic we teach earns them a certificate and a badge for them to wear on their uniform, we aim to help them achieve 3 badges a year. Every 3 badges will earn them a bronze badge, then silver and finally Super badger award, this is the highest award a badger can achieve. At the end of the year, we aim to hold a presentation evening to show all these achievements.

We will fill each session with lots of fun including games and crafts helping them learn life skills and meet new friends. They will also have lots of opportunities to attend activity days on some weekends and residentials throughout the year.

To learn more and sign up parents can click on the link below and sign up for Halton badgers.

https://www.sja.org.uk/get-involved/young-people/badgers/
