I learned a lot this lesson. I learned about website privacy policies and I discovered a new citation generator. I had always clicked “yes” to accept cookies without considering what I was consenting to. I will now reconsider this choice every time I do it. I will also think twice before I recommend a public website to my patrons, as I want to make sure that their privacy is protected. Finally, when looking for a citation generator, I had never used MyBib. The format of this service is excellent and I will be using it in the future. The citation game is a game I will share in future lessons as well. It is a more fun way of practicing citations and formatting without rewriting citations over and over again. I think my students will enjoy it. Thanks for the excellent lesson!

I learned about MyBib in this lesson and I’m very thankful for it! It’s a citation generator I’d never heard of and it’s a wonderful addition to my ‘toolbelt.’ I also learned a lot about privacy policies. Like most people, I just click “yes” for the popup so I can move on and continue what I was doing. Now I’ll be actively thinking about what I’m agreeing to.

It was also interesting to look at Target's privacy policy. They have a very extensive page with lots of information about their policy.

Trying 2 different citations was an interesting exercise. I tried Refworks and MyBib. They vary in what fields one can enter and that changes the citation, even for the same style. Reading privacy policies was an eye-opener, especially Facebook which is notorious about not protecting your privacy. Both, the citation and reading the privacy policies are essential tools. Thank you for covering them in your lesson.

There are a LOT of citation machines out there and they are not all created equal. MyBib was probably my favorite, but honestly, I would only have my kids use it if they were citing a video or clearly cited article. For anything else, I'd have them cite by hand... I know it's annoying, but there are so many ways to mess up on a citation machine!

I think the biggest thing that I learned was privacy policies and citations go hand in hand. It is so important to know what you are signing up for and to know what is being collected on your behalf. I really enjoyed reading about how they are connected and how educators can use information gathered to get to know their students and inform their practice (Jones, 2020). I never thought of that before and found it interesting!

I care what happens with the information I give companies and what they do with it, so it is really important to be able to find out their policies and what they are doing with my data. I think that this was a very important lesson. It was also cool to get some new information on citation generators that I had never used before.

Reading a privacy policy reminded me how much of my personal information is really shared! This also reminded me how important it is for us as librarians to protect our students’ personal information. MyBib is a citation generator I hadn’t used it before and I know I will be using it more often. It’s a contrast to my usual go-to, Citation Machine, and I think it offers more options. These are all great tools for librarians to utilize, as well as for us to guide students to understand that these tools are not always accurate, and the importance of citing our sources. Thank you Cathy, for a very informative lesson!

I learned a lot from actually reading privacy policies, something I should probably do more often. The thought of how much of my private information they are storing and using is rather uncomfortable. This was a valuable exercise. I also learned that I still greatly dislike citation generators. I generally find that it takes me longer to use one than to use a traditional style guide. It was valuable to look at them because my patrons and students may prefer them, so it is important that I know how to use them.

This lesson has made me a much more active participant in my online use. I found you tutorial on Noodle Tools very helpful, and will definitely be checking that out in the future.

I haven't really used citation generators before, which is funny considering this is my last class of the MLIS program! Citation was actually one of the most stressful parts of starting grad school, and confusing because some professors wanted MLA and others APA. I remember it taking me a whole day just to create my references list for my first paper, and I didn't even know citation generators existed). So thanks for introducing me to these, though honestly, I still like to do them myself. Privacy policy was another element that I hadn't really ever really thought about before, so I especially appreciate learning being made more aware of them. Thanks for the important lessons!
