The government and the laws are important because they help keep order in the towns and cities. They also make things fair even if sometimes they are the unfair ones.
Hammurabi's code of laws tell me that Mesopotamia had a very strict government and that Hammurabi didn't want any messing around.

Hammurabi's code of laws were important to Mesopotamia because they helped the civilization stay together and not split up. Also the code of law helped people to like Hammurabi and how he organized things and they did not have a rebellion of any sort.

And so everyone didn't have to do everything for themselves.
Kings/Government Officials: In charge of everyone, from organizing labor to who gets what.
Priests: Priests are the ones with the most power after the King, they are in charge of making offerings to the gods.
Artisans/Merchants/Scribes: Are in charge of trading with different states, making art, and making Mesopotamian writing.
Farmers: they were in charge of growing crops to give to the king.

The class divisions were Upper Class, the middle class, and the lower class.
