“Back in My Day: Life in the 2020s”

Ah, kids, let me tell you about the world when I was your age. It was the 2020s—a time that feels like another lifetime now. Things were so different back then, and yet, in some ways, not so different at all.

We lived in a world where technology was just beginning to shape every aspect of life. We had these little devices called “smartphones”—tiny screens that fit in your pocket but could connect you to almost anyone, anywhere in the world. They weren’t as advanced as the neural interfaces you use now, of course, but for us, they were revolutionary. Social media, streaming platforms, video calls—they were the lifelines of our era. We even worked and went to school through screens during something called the “pandemic.”

Ah, the pandemic. It was 2020 when it hit—COVID-19. Imagine a world where people had to stay indoors for months, wearing masks every time they stepped outside. Businesses shut down, schools went remote, and we realized how fragile and interconnected everything was. But you know what? That time taught us resilience. It brought families closer (sometimes too close!) and made us appreciate the simplest things—a walk in the park, a hug, even just breathing freely.

We were also just starting to wake up to the damage we had done to the planet. Climate change was no longer just a warning; it was happening before our eyes. Forests burned, oceans rose, and storms grew fiercer. People argued a lot about whose fault it was, but thankfully, some of us got serious about fixing things. I hope you’re enjoying the cleaner air and thriving nature we fought so hard to protect.

Of course, there was joy, too. We were passionate about our music, our movies, and our stories. We gathered for concerts and festivals, cheered at sports events, and created art that would last generations. We laughed at memes and danced to trends that would be forgotten in weeks—but at the time, they made us feel alive.

It wasn’t a perfect time. We had divisions and challenges, and sometimes it felt like the world was on the brink of something big and scary. But we also had hope. Hope that humanity could rise above its flaws. Hope that science, kindness, and creativity would guide us to a better future.

And now, looking at you, I think we did okay.

One time I was sitting with my cousin at night and his phone rang. My cousin had been receiving calls from someone from a hidden number at intervals for about a year. This time, he had accidentally called from his own number. 6 months after the incident, the secret number called my cousin once again, it was past 12 o'clock at night and it woke us up from our sleep. We nervously wanted to call back, but we couldn't because it was a hidden number. After thinking about it for a while, we remembered that he already had his number. My cousin had an unregistered number in his phone book, and we thought it belonged to that person. We looked at the number holder through an application, saw that his name matched that person, and called immediately without question. The voice we heard on the phone belonged to someone else, not the caller. We immediately hung up but 2 minutes later, the wife of the person we were looking for called us and accused her of being obsessed with her husband. We decided to block it by trying to explain the situation, because because of us, the man's nest was destroyed. We thought it might be demolished. For 3 days we tried to convince the woman that we did not know her husband. In the end, we persuaded him, albeit with difficulty, and made him give up. That moment stuck in my mind, both ashamed and angry

I had a friend who I loved and valued a lot. We didn’t like a certain girl, and inevitably, we used to talk about her behind her back. After a while, I saw my friend hanging out with her, and this girl had done a lot of harm to me. When I asked him why he did this, he said, “I did this to teach you a lesson because you talk to her.” But the people I talked to had nothing against her. Despite this, I said, “Okay, if you feel bad about it, I won’t talk to them anymore,” and I cut ties with those people for his sake. However, a week later, he started talking to that girl again and hanging out with her more than with me. When I asked him again, he said, “I want to do it.” I replied, “But I did it for you, I said I wouldn’t talk to them because of you.” And he responded, “You shouldn’t have done that, it was an excuse.”So, he used me. I wish I hadn’t trusted him, because I was really hurt by this. The girl wasn’t a good person; she had problems with all her friends, and I knew she would harm him too. I wish I had warned him more, but when we stopped talking, he used the excuse that I yelled at him and treated him badly. But every person can act harshly when they’re stressed. He never warned me about this, and I didn’t do anything bad to him because I didn’t want to harm him. I didn’t even realize that my harsh behavior affected him. Now, I wish I hadn’t let this all happen. He’s just trying to suppress his guilt by making excuses and talking behind my back with the people he’s now friends with. But in the end, I’ve realized who really lost here.

Extreme sports are, like, super risky. You need to be strong not just your body, but your mind too. It’s not like doing yoga or going for a walk. This is pure adrenaline!

When I did bungee jumping, they took me up to this really high platform like, I swear, I felt like I was on top of a mountain. The instructor came, checked all the safety stuff: ropes, harness, everything.

But the real thing is this: you have to jump. You have to let go.

And that’s not just physical it’s mental too.

I told myself, “You came all the way here, girl. You’re doing this.”

And then… I jumped.

That moment? You’re just falling. No ground, no time, just you and the wind.

Your body’s falling but your brain is like, “WHAT ARE WE DOING??”

But honestly? That freefall… it’s everything. Kind of addictive.

All extreme sports are like that. They’re all about facing your fear.

Skydiving? You literally jump out of a plane.

Wingsuit? You fly like a bird.

Rock climbing, mountain biking all of them are crazy, but also so fun.

When it’s over, you’re like:

“Wow… I’m actually kind of a legend.”
