On line 54, when the narrator says "I can see a story developing behind her eyes", it means that the mother is staring off into space and starting to relate to Picasso and how he was depressed, and how the mother was at one point to. On lines 53-55, it says "My mother takes my hand and looks away from the painting. I can see a story developing behind her eyes, and I tug on her arm to release the words." To me, this seems like the mother is having some kind of flashback about a point in time when she could relate to Picasso, and is going to tell her daughter a story about Picasso that is easy and fun for her to understand.

And the daughter saw that there was a story developing behind her eyes. the text states that she is wanting to go back to Indians and not live in the city but she can't so i think that she is in her blue period too. The reason i think that she knew that he was depressed is because i think that she is also facing depression. So i think she understand why he looked sad and depressed.

Lines 51-59 says, " I can see a story developing behind her eyes, and I tug on her arm to release the words." Because of this, I can understand that the narrator is wanting to hear her mothers own words of the story because she knows her mom's version will be more meaningful towards her.

What I want to prove is that , when the narrator says " I can see a story developing behind her eyes" she means that the mom knows the 1800s artist Picasso's artwork and his story. She knows what Picasso was thinking in his paiting she feels the same she can relate to deppression and she has for a few years. The text states in lines 55 - 57 painted this canvas. Because of this text I can infer her mom knows that he was sad and knows how he feels cause " i tug on her arm to release the words. she will tell me why Picasso was blue , what his thoughts were as he shes going through deppression . In my opinon she dosent really know Picasso she just know his blue period his great deppression and she thinks of how bad it is and was for him like it is for her. And know shes goig to help her daughter understand

This means that her mom is thinking of Picasso's story. In the story she tells her daughter " he did this during his blue period," in line 50. The blue period is when someone is sad and I think her mom is on her blue period so she can pretty much relate to Picasso.
