Importance Of Health Evaluation

Evaluation and double-checking are extremely important for any subject. Health evaluation however is especially important, as being too trusting with something as delicate as one’s health can lead to regrets and in some cases, things that cannot be undone. With our modern world, most medical and health companies have websites. It’s important to pay attention to these sites because there are certain aspects that often slip under the radar. The first is the domain; what does it end with. Usually sites end with .com, but most trusted websites end with .gov, which means it’s controlled by a government website. Another thing to look for is it’s security. If it has a lock next to it, or has an https (which the s stands for secure), means that it’s a verified website.

A couple months ago, I got gravely ill. I honestly didn’t know what was wrong with me. So I looked it up and got some pretty outlandish results. This got me anxious, so I looked deeper and found an actual website, which just so happened to be the CDC, and I discovered that I had caught a pretty nasty strain of summer flu. If I hadn’t double checked, I*d probably panic, which is definitely not suitable for a sick person.

“It costs money to run a website. The source of a website’s funding should be clearly stated or readily apparent. For example, the U.S. government funds website with addresses ending in ".gov," educational institutes maintain ".edu" sites, noncommercial organizations' addresses often use ".org," and ".com" denotes a commercial organization. A website's source of funding can affect the content it presents, how it presents that content, and what the owner wants to accomplish on the site.” (iBook 3)

“What is the original source of the website’s information? Many health and medical websites post information that the owner has collected from other websites or sources. If the person or organization in charge of the site did not write the material, they should clearly identify the original source.” (iBook 3)

“Who runs the website? Any website should make it easy for you to learn who is responsible for the site and its information.” (iBook 3)
