During the Amber Road trade, the Teutonic Knights and local Baltic traders gained the most. The Teutonic Knights used their control over important areas to increase trade, which made them richer and more powerful. Their success also helped the local economies, making them important players in the trade.

What was the economy like during this time?

During the Amber Road trade, economies thrived because of the high value of amber, which was exchanged for metals, textiles, and pottery.

During the trade Amber was used to pay Teutonic Knights in the 12th and 13th centuries and the people who harvested and sold Amber was killed and the Teutonic knights killed Prussian opponents. The indigenous people were harmed too because Teutonic knights was needed to be paid, and the people was enslaved and had to do work. Amber has probably been the earliest precious material. Even before the Silk Road or the Salt Road, amber was collected, processed, and traded across Asia, Europe, and Africa.

8 Trade Routes That Shaped World History (mentalfloss.com)

History of the Amber Way from the Baltic States to Rome (holeinthedonut.com)
