Term paper is a type of an essay with a few differences from the essay 1 and 2 you did in 202.

1. Number of paragraphs

202 (Essay) 203(TP)

- Three main ideas

-5 paragraphs with but 5, 6 or 7/8 paragraphs

Three main ideas

In 202 you are not allowed to use any sources. However, in 203 you are writing a TP and you must include ideas from sources to support your main points. You have to use 4 to 7 sources. These sources include books, newspaper, magazine, journal articles, websites.. However, all sources must be academic. Non-academic sources are not allowed.

You will have to first select a topic.

Topic must be related to your major.

It must be one of the following types:

Causes

Effects

Advantages/disadvantages/ both

Problems/solutions/both

Argument

Comparison

Contrast

Topics not allowed at all.

a. History of something

b. Definition of something

c. About the major ( e.g. advantages/importance of civil engineering, role of business, importance of Bio-medicine etc).

d. Types of something ( e.g. types of management, types of brake system, types of circuits, types of cancer, etc. )

e. Talking about obesity

f. Talking about facebook or social media

g. Talking about E-marketing/online shopping/online marketing

h. Process ( how something works or created or designed)

i. Solar Energy

Before the next class, everyone should write three rough topics.
