Democracy started around 500 B.C.E in the city-state in Athens. Many people began to oppose the tyrants rule. The main governing body was the Citizen Assembly. The assembly allows 30,000-40,000 people, but mostly 5,000 show. Both the rich and the poor citizens can attend. The body meets 40 times a year. Public officials didn't have much individual power. Nearly all government officials (generals, assembly, council members, and citizens that served on juries) got paid.

Democracy is very important and the most stable type of government.
