Indian leader, Mohandas Gandhi was known to be nonviolent, and inspired others to be nonviolent as well. In his fight against the British rule, he also used nonviolence and therefore influenced Hindu and Buddhists.

A lot of Indian legacies have made a huge impact of daily life. For example, religion. Today, religious beliefs from years ago have still been used today, and spread to other places. Another example is art, such as the art on Angkor Wat. Angkor Wat is visited almost daily, and many admire the beautiful art. The art is actually made by ancient builders, and a lot of Indian influences are seen in the design of the temple. Lastly, math. Without the Hindu-Arabic numerals, or the decimal system, we wouldn't zero as a number!

Hinduism is the modern name for the major religion of India. Hindus worship many deities, or gods, and believe in reincarnation, meaning that each person has many lives and karma. Hindus also believe that they connect with God by following their own individual path.

Another religion, that also began in India, was based on the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama, who was later known as Buddha, or the enlightened one. The Four Noble Truths were formed when he found understanding under a fig tree. The Eightfold Path, the Buddha taught, could lead to nirvana, which was the end of suffering. The Buddha also believed in the practice of ahimsa which was respect for all living things.
