What desired natural resources
that we have covered throughout class could the spice in Dune represent?

The resource known as Spice or melange in dune, allows for space travel, making it very valuable and expensive. Spice is extracted from the planet, Arrakis and then refined. Spice makes those who extract it, very rich. It is inferred that spice is also no renewable. All of these qualities make spice very similar to the natural resource: oil. Both Oil and spice are desired by powerful governments and organization. While the US , Russia, China, and other global powers desire oil to run factories, vehicles and other necessities, The emperor desires Spice to travel through space. Global powers will also risk money and military for oil just as the Harkonnens will risk peace for Spice.

What comparisons to the religions we have covered in class can you make to the religions depicted inDune on the planet of Arrakis?

The most known religion in dune is the Fremen. The Fremen can be compared to Christianity because the Fremen believe that water is sacred just as many christians believe in baptisms and holy water. The Fremen also believe that the sandworm is an embodiment of god and symbolizes something much more powerful just as many old religions believe animals to be sacred. Also, the Fremen believe in the Lisan al Galib or the voice from an outer world which is a savior of sorts. This is similar to many of the Abrahamic religions.

Ornithopters in dune are seen throughout the movie as well as different variants of the Ornithopter. This product is useful because Ornithopters are the main air vehicles seen in dune and it would be easier to stay cool when travelling in the air because it would absorb less heat. Ornithopters are the best source of transportation on the planet arrakis but the MK4 would be more efficient than all of the other versions.

This response is good because not only is the war over spice, relatable to the oil in the middle east, but so are other things like the religion, the climate. Although Spice, as my dad said, is similar to oil and the different houses are analogous to world powers. I agree with this response because there is no other situation in the real world as the oil wars in the Middle East.

What conflict over geography that we have covered in class could the conflict in Dune represent?

Dune most likely represents conflicts that the world has over the oil in the Middle East. This is because the Fremen who attack the Harkonnens and the Atreides to protect spice is similar to how the People of the Middle East try to protect their oil. These two subjects are also similar because countries that are undoubtably more powerful, try to take oil from the Middle East as well. The climates of the locations that these are taking place is shockingly similar. The Fremen also are similar to many Abrahamic religions such as Islam. Spice is also very similar to nonrenewable resources. Spice is also sought by the Emperor and every planet in the dune universe.

Fremen Value water as Christians because the Fremen value it as what gives them life and the Christians value it because they use it for baptisms.

While the Fremen Believe in Lisan al Galib, All three Abrahamic Religions believe in a savior, Christians believe is jesus. Islam believes in Muhammad, and Jews believe in Moses.

Egyptians believe that cats are higher beings the same way that the Fremen Believe that worms are their god.

Lastly, Both Fremen and Native Americans learn to live alongside animals instead of viewing them as a threat. The Fremen live with worms while native americans lived with bears, because bears symbolized power to them.
