For this intercultural module I have learned a lot and understood a lot about the different cultures. But I have been used to all these cultures before because I was brought up in a melting pot known as St.Maarten. This island is known for all different cultures to be part of an island. You meet all kinds of different people. This module gave me more information on how to adapt to the different cultures surrounding me and how can see the differences. The two topics that I liked from the whole intercultural was the Hofstede and Trompenaars case study and the activity where he had to stick pieces of paper and there were categories as religion, family, education, hobby etc. We had to put the pieces of paper on the categories we think we represent ourselves more. I liked the case study because I found more information and know my bsp group better, and I found it really interesting, I also found myself in the categories I picked and see where I belonged and it was really fun to know more information from my classmates. And the two topics I found less relevant and not really to do was the activity with the balloon factory and the interview we had to do. With the balloon factory nothing was organized and when they came in the room everyone was talking and I couldn’t even pay attention to the main point of the activity. And I was just talking to the students instead of doing the activity. And I was not really interested in the activity. The second one was the interview I am already used to many culture differences and I have done many interviews in my life so I am use to it and all I learnt were small things I needed to improve it didn’t have a huge impact.

My two strengths is that I can deal with any problems that comes my way I wouldn’t panic and wouldn’t know what to do. Also another strength is that I am really caring so I am able to comfort somebody if they are done and make them feel better. My challenge is the language used in the Nederland’s. That causes me to have problems communicating sometimes because when my group members talk about work I wouldn’t be able to understand and then they have to switch tot English for me to understand. So that is one thing that troubles me while I am living in the Nederland’s. And then I would have to force myself to understand but it is really hard and I want to be able to understand them. My second challenge is the food in the Nederland’s. Me being Indian I am used to spicy food, which Nederland’s does not offer. Everything in the Nederland is sweet and bland which is not my taste. So my biggest challenge is not able to eat spicy food.

My two personal goals is one to learn the native language in Nederland’s and to break the language barrier so I am able to communicate with anyone I want to. Me learning Dutch would help in understanding my friends and give me an advantage in receiving a job in the Nederland’s. My next personal goal is to have the most diverse group of friend so I can hang out with them and study with them. For example having friends from different cultures you learn something new from everyone which helps you in enhancing your knowledge which is good for me the more I know the better.
