Jazirat Al Hamra is a place in Ras Al Khaimah, UAE. This place is known as the "Ghost Town". It is known for its collection of about 500 houses which were abandoned between 1968-71 which is widely believed to be haunted. Its authenticity characterizes the pre-oil townscape of a settlement, which today is nowhere else preserved. The myth prevailing about the town is the presence of the legendary Jinn, who are invisible spirits found in both Islamic and Pre-Islamic Arab mythology. They are portrayed in Arab culture as master shape-shifters who takes the shape of snakes and black dogs.

Have you ever heard of a mosque made in a different style? I’ll tell you about Al Bidya Mosque, in Fujairah, UAE.

It was the oldest known mosque in the country, before the discovery of an older mosque in 2018. (1000 yr old mosque dating back to Islamic golden age)

Here’s some information - from a testimony by Emirati Historian, Rashad Bukhash. According to him, the mosque was in really good shape even in 2008, after being built in around 1599!

No one can be sure to this day who built the mosque, but legend goes, that the person who built Al Bidya Mosque told the locals that he was capable of building a mosque that has four domes and just one pillar. They had serious doubts, so he took the challenge and well, completed it!

It is located in the village of Al Bidya in Fujairah. The village is a coastal one, which lies by the Gulf of Oman. Its people rely on fishing and farming for a living. The village gained prominence in the UAE through the mosque.

“The east coast of the UAE was a very important destination for travellers back then. When Ibn Batutta was exploring the world in 1140, there was evidence that he visited the towns on the eastern coasts, he wrote about this area of the UAE quite a bit, but he never mentions Dubai, Sharjah or Abu Dhabi.”

Adding to the prominence of the village are other archaeological finds. A 30-metre grave from 2000BC has been found in the village besides other findings from 200BC, the Hellenistic period.

It still functions today, and I’m quite sure you’d love to pay a visit!

India Gate, a famous tourist spot and a war memorial built for the soldiers martyred during the first world war, is situated in the heart of the capital of India, New Delhi. Inaugurated in the year 1931, February, India gate, built by a famous architect of those times Edwin Lyutens, is the testimony of the architectural prowess of the country. Known for its state of the art architectural design, it took almost 10 long years to build India gate. It is a 42m in height and 9m in width monument. Built with granite and yellow and red sandstone, India Gate is an embodiment of Arc de Triomphe de I’Etoile in France, Paris.

India gate was originally built to commemorate martyrs of the British India Army who fought for their motherland against the enemies during the first world war. It also commemorates the martyrs of the Bangladesh liberation war in the year 1971. Amar Jawan Jyoti which is an integral part of India gate was built after the India-Pakistan war and was inaugurated by the then Prime Miniter of India, Indira Gandhi.

Other than the facts of the India Gate, the monument is fondly loved by Indians and people across the world not just for its architecture and beauty, but for what it represents for today’s India

India Gate should be preserved so that we remember the soldiers that have sacrificed themselves for the country.

It is modelled after the one that he had built at the Mughal capital of Delhi. He had constructed a total of five such facilities at different locations, including the ones at Delhi and Jaipur. The Jaipur observatory is the largest and best preserved of these and has a set of some 20 main fixed instruments built in masonry. It has been inscribed as cultural property on the UNESCO World Heritage List as "an expression of the astronomical skills and cosmological concepts of the court of a scholarly prince at the end of the Mughal period.

Spooky and Haunted, but important, here it is!
This is the Jazirat Al Hamra a.k.a the Ghost town of the UAE. In the 14th century, Al Jazirat Al Hamra was built by three local tribes, including the ruling Za’ab tribe. The piece of land was once a tidal island, and the name Al Jazirat Al Hamra translates literally from Arabic to mean “red island”.

In around 1830, an estimated 200 people lived in this small village, with most of them earning their living as pearl fishermen. The population swelled to around two thousand in the 20th century, right before the whole lot abandoned their homes.

An undisturbed picture of life before the discovery of oil was left behind and preserved until today. This is a unique area for Ras Al Khaimah and the whole country. Al Al Jazirah Al Hamra is one of the best places to study traditional coral-stone architecture, used along the coast of the UAE.

There were many rumors which led the villagers to leave the town.

Some say it was the promise of prosperity that led the locals of Al Jazirat Al Hamra to Abu Dhabi. Others muse that a tribal dispute with the leader of Ras Al Khaimah forced the villagers to seek safety in their neighbors' land. Still, others insist that it was ghosts haunting the coral-and-mud dwellings that drove the inhabitants away.

Uniquely, both the past way of life and the very first modern transformations of the U.A.E. are preserved and reflected in the architecture and structural setup of this abandoned town.

Jazirat al-Hamra is an outstanding example of a traditional island settlement representing the industry of pearl fishing and pearl trade.

Thank you all!
