I love Greek Myths, as dark, horrific, and confusing as they can be. The birth of Venus is no different. I've always loved this painting, even before taking the class (now knowing the background has made it even more enjoyable). The way Venus is painted has always inspired me. I love the not-so-proportional lengthiness of her body, especially her neck. It inspires me in my artwork to this day!

The symbolism in this piece is stunning! I didn't realize how much I enjoyed symbolism in my art till I took this class and learned about things like vanitas symbols. It makes me want to include hidden signs and whatnot in my artwork for an imaginary audience to dissect. I love this painting.

The Rehearsal on Stage

I am a sucker for pretty things. I've always found ballet a beautiful but harrowing sport. I think that would be represented in this painting. When it comes to impressionism I am picky about what I like, but painting ballerinas will do it every time. It is just so pretty. It makes me want to go see a ballet!

Three Flags

This is normally not something I would gravitate towards, however, the meaning called to me. Jasper felt his rights as a gay man were shrinking like the flag in his art. Gay rights are something I deem pretty important. I liked the use of the flag in this instance to get the message across. It is a simple but powerful piece.
