Along with our math and ELA curriculum, we integrate art, music, dance, and yoga into our schedule. 

Each student has two blocks of humanities daily, as well as a 45 minute block for free play. 

We use Illustrative Math for our math curriculum and Open Up Resources ELA and Bookworms Reading & Writing for English Language arts. Our ELA program uses science and social studies texts alongside prose to integrate these into our day. We also focus on both science and social studies within our humanities classes.

Students are allowed to sit where they are comfortable during lessons with the exception of art class. 

We celebrate diversity at Woodwinds Grammar School and offer multiple forms of media that are inclusive to all. Our school library has a variety of books with diverse characters. We want to represent and celebrate every student that walks through our doors. 

We have a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) that helps create a safe learning environment for all our students. Our teachers use smartboard technology to have interactive lessons. Upon request, iPads are also available for use in the classroom.

Chromebook integration starts in kindergarten to develop our students digital literacy skills early. Educational games are also offered to all students during free time. 

Grades 3 through 5 participate in a typing and coding class weekly. We encourage parents and community members to volunteer their time and knowledge to provide a large variety of programs.

They can showcase their work and support fellow students.

Each school year we decide on a service learning project to work on. Throughout the year, all grades participate in focused projects to help move our project forward. For the 2022-23 school year, we chose to help out our local nursing homes. So far students have made holiday cards for patients and staff and our knitting club is in the process of completing blankets for patients. 

By participating in these projects, students learn to help serve their community and think beyond just their own needs. I feel that the more I learned about cultural inclusion, the more I saw how the social aspect of school affects children. 

Prior to this class I was aware that technology was used in the classroom but never thought about how it needed to really be used in a meaningful way. I have seen firsthand how the lack of access to chromebooks effects a school. 

I will move forward in my current profession as a paraprofessional and future profession as a teacher using the knowledge from this class to help my students socially gain more confidence and be inclusive of their peers.
