The person depicted in the picture above is Lee Sang-hyeok, but is more known by his in-game name, Faker. Faker is the undisputed best League of Legends player of all time.

Faker was born in Seoul, South Korea in 1996. He grew up being taken care of by his father and grandparents. When he was young, he enjoyed doing puzzles and playing video games like Warcraft. It was not until 2011 that he discovered League of Legends. He quickly rose to the top, and that lead him to drop out of high school to pursue his dream career in esports with the team SKT T1.

Faker holds three League of Legends World Championship (Worlds) titles with his team T1. He lead his team to earn their first Worlds win in 2013 when he was only seventeen years old. After winning his three titles, Faker and his team T1 would have a lot of trouble trying to get into the finals, but this year they made it to the finals. Unfortunately for T1, they lost the series 3-2 in an amazing back and fourth game.

The short answer to this question is, yes! Esports is only getting bigger and bigger every year. As the games that are being played get more popular, so does the esport. Just like how the growth of traditional sports was very fast and exciting, esports is following the same path. All around Asia, you can see it getting more and more accepted into the day-to-day. Even Asian sports bars show esports!

For a long time now, esports in Asia has been seen as a "real sport." In the west, most people don't watch esports, or think that is nerdy, but it's completely different in Asia. In Korea, it is more popular to watch an esports game than to watch a regular sport. Even the players for regular sports are paid less than esports players.

People in Asian countries grow up playing games like League of Legends. In China, there are so many good players that they created something called the Chinese super server. This is a server where all the best players from all around China and Korea can play against each other. There is a never-ending stream of talent flowing out of this.
