July 16th, 1969
It was launch day! I'm really excited, we are in Merritt Island at NASA. I am going to be the command module pilot for this mission, which means that I am going to be orbiting the moon by myself while Neil and Buzz are the first people to walk on the moon. I am a little nervous but mostly excited. This is my second time in space, I first was aboard the Gemini 10. Gemini 10 prepared us to be ready for now, the Apollo 11!

3...2...1... take off!! We're off into space! The launch went very smoothly I would say. I really cannot believe this is happening! We have entered space, so now we are heading for the moon! But, when we got close to the moon a series of alarms greeted us caused by radar-tracking and computer overload. Neil overrode the automatic landing system because we realized that we were headed for an extremely rocky region. But, we found a better spot and got down to the moon safely. Now it was time for me to orbit the moon while Neil and Buzz did their part.

So, while Neil and Buzz did there job of stepping foot on the moon while I was orbiting the moon. I would say that I was in orbit for about 21 hours. Whenever I passed the lunar side of the moon I would loose all communications with people. People assume that I hated the quiet and I was nervous about not being able to contact anyone but I honestly loved the quiet, it was very peaceful. I liked the fact that I could not hear mission control telling me what to do all the time. Anyways, our mission was successful and Neil and Buzz were the first people to ever step foot on the moon! We headed back to Earth with not many problems which was good. We ended up landing on Earth on July 24, 1969. I am very happy with the mission but I am also happy to be home!
