Today we shared our ideas about how we can develop the key competencies through international work. Understanding the mother tongue to communicate in is so important. It overlaps and embeds into all of the other competencies. But do we know how to communicate properly? We need to understand the process behind the communication. There were fantastic ideas that were shared for international work. I love the idea of taking a picture in the same place at the same time over a period of time and comparing that with partner schools in our own country and abroad. I also loved the idea of concentrating on positive behaviour traits with our international partners and then developing an international celebration together. In our school we have already begun to develop an international school policy based on mutual respect and citizenship.

So easy to see how they cross over into each area now that we have discussed it. Great to share ideas that are specific to each key competence - so easy to see how small seeds can grow into international projects , whilst at the same time enhancing our own work in the classroom and embedding the ideas for our pupils. I was particularly interested in thinking about sharing number 5 - social and civic competences . Ideas such as sharing your typical day and reflecting on how children learn from each other , looking for similarities across schools. Another great idea is collaboratively sharing a story - again quite simple but so effective. The idea of looking at the weather each week and comparing the results would give us so many thoughts for discusssion as well as curriculum focused work. Thanks for all the ideas and another amazing day .

We had good conversations about key competences and we heard many concretic ways to use them at schools. Classroom today was on the beach in Sainte Anne. We studied key competences. Everyone has studied  one of those key competences as a homework and prepared ideas for international activities to do concerning to that competence. I’m happy that we have had time (and interest) to discuss about themes and issues we are studying. I’ve learnt a lot not only about daily issues but also about the school systems in different European countries. Today I also learnt that you can find cows on the beach.

We learned a number of great examples of how well-targeted and creative children are educated in the UK, Finland. People who are proactive, creative, indifferent to innovation can easily adapt to a constantly changing society.

After that, we deepened the knowledge of the French language and ate very delicious cakes.

Today we talked about activities to develop key competences. Getting concrete activity ideas for teaching is always nice. I liked a lot the ideas for art  studies: coping famous paintings, making poems of those and writing stories before and after making the painting.
