From my observation, I have seen my MT assess that the students have learned the success criteria of the lesson as she gives them exit tickets at the end of the lesson or as a check-in the next day. In doing this my MT can see whether the students understand the material and if there are areas she needs to go over. These formative assessments allow her to see if the students are grasping the information and she can fix any misunderstandings before the summative assessments/tests.

At my school placement, my mentor teacher is a gym teacher, so a lot of her assessments are primarily visual. That is done through how the students are demonstrating the skills are being completed during the drills and games in class, as well as overall participation. She mentioned, when assessing her students, she does not expect them to be perfect with all the skills they are learning. The criteria she looks for is are they trying to do the correct form, are they following the steps, are they getting the basics, during the games are they trying to play and use the skills they've learned. My mentor teacher explained to me that at the beginning of each semester she communicates this to each class, verbally and on the course syllabus, to ensure students feel comfortable since every student varies in skill level when it comes to sports.
