One of the main issues with flooding in downtown Charleston is the elevation limiting the size of the pipes and what level they are able to decline. This would be lessened by being able to have the pipes in several stretches interrupted by a small pool and what is known as an Archimedes screw, an ancient device that is still in use and is able to carry water upward. This allows the water to be carried out of the downtown pipe system more quickly, preventing flooding due to the pipe system being overwhelmed by a large amount of water. We all know that the downtown area floods the worst in Charleston, SC. The students can download this app for free and it is available to download on any device. It will show them warnings of how many feet of water is on that street around campus. This will help students know which route to take when going to school, especially if they are in a small car, riding a bike, or walking! When a student is about to get near a flood zone, a notification will pop up on their phone.
