AKHLAQ AND ITS RELATION WITH THE HEART

In Islam, akhlaq or someone's behaviours are really important as it goes together with the faith and iman in muslim's heart. A good muslim will always show good akhlaq without any intention of getting a reward except from Allah.

Al-Nu'man ibn Bashir, from Rasulullah SAW said :

"Verily, in the body is a piece of flesh which, if sound, the entire body is sound, and if corrupt, the entire body is corrupt. Truly, it is the heart. "

From this hadith we can conclude that, a muslim is cumpulsory to have a good akhlaq to maintain the faith and strong iman in their heart. As an ummah of Prophet Muhammad SAW, we shall follow and copy his excellent akhlaq as mentioned by Saidatina Aishah that the akhlaq of Muhammad SAW is the Quran.

Virtues Found in Ṣalāh with Khushūʿ

1. Al-Ṭāʿah (Submission/Loyalty)

When you perform Ṣalāh with khushūʿ, you show complete submission and loyalty to Allah. You acknowledge that Allah is the Creator, and you submit your heart, mind, and actions to Him. This deep sense of surrender is at the heart of worship, as you prioritize Allah above everything else.

2. Al-Jihād (Struggle in the Path of Allah)

Khushūʿ in Ṣalāh reflects a personal struggle to focus on Allah despite distractions. This is a form of jihād (struggle), not in the physical sense, but as an internal struggle to purify the heart and maintain sincerity in worship. By striving for khushūʿ, a believer fights against worldly distractions to achieve spiritual growth.

3. Muḥāsabah (Reflection)

Praying with khushūʿ allows you to reflect on your actions and seek self-improvement. After each prayer, you can engage in muḥāsabah (self-accountability), thinking about how you performed the prayer and how to better your relationship with Allah. It encourages you to assess your behavior and correct mistakes, improving spiritually.

4. Iffah (Modesty/Self-Restraint from Sinful Behavior)

When you have khushūʿ in Ṣalāh, you develop iffah (modesty) and self-restraint. You are more mindful of your actions and avoid sinful behavior, knowing that Allah is watching. This helps you develop a greater sense of discipline and awareness, leading you to avoid actions that displease Allah.

5. Tawaḍḍuʿ (Humility/Humbleness)

Khushūʿ cultivates tawaḍḍuʿ (humility) by making you feel small in the presence of Allah. In prayer, you physically and mentally submit, bowing and prostrating, which reminds you of your humble position before your Creator. This humbling act helps to remove pride and arrogance, fostering a spirit of humbleness in all aspects of

Understanding the Virtues of Fasting and Charity

The Concept of Ṣawm (Fasting) – Tafsir of Sūrah al-Baqarah (2:183–187):

Fasting, as outlined in these verses, is a divine command that serves as a spiritual discipline to attain taqwā (God-consciousness). It teaches individuals to abstain from food, drink, and worldly desires from dawn to sunset, redirecting their focus towards Allah. The act of fasting not only involves physical restraint but also moral and spiritual growth. The Quran emphasizes the ease and flexibility of fasting by allowing exemptions for those who are sick or traveling, reflecting Islam’s compassion and practicality. Fasting encourages Muslims to express gratitude to Allah for His blessings while becoming more mindful of their responsibilities as His servants.

The Virtues Found in Ṣawm (Fasting):

1. Ṣabr (Patience and Forbearance):

Fasting instills patience, as individuals endure hunger and thirst while controlling their impulses. This practice builds resilience, self-control, and the ability to overcome challenges in life. Patience during fasting strengthens one’s connection to Allah and fosters a deeper sense of reliance on Him.

2. Raḥmah (Mutual Cooperation, Empathy, and Sympathy):

Fasting nurtures empathy for the less fortunate, allowing Muslims to feel the struggles of those who go without food and basic needs. This experience encourages acts of kindness, generosity, and mutual support, especially through increased charity during Ramadan. It unites the Muslim community through shared worship and care for one another.

The act of sacrificing an animal during Eid al-Adha, known as Qurbani, commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah’s command. This sacrifice reflects the essence of Ḥajj, which is about surrendering one’s desires and ego for the sake of Allah. Just as pilgrims sacrifice animals, they also sacrifice their comfort, wealth, and time to complete the sacred journey.
