We're having a Littler Yarn with singer and fellow Gamilaroi girl Loren Ryan! She's going to share some language with us and her Gamilaraay version of 'I Can Sing a Rainbow'. This resource was created by 4 July 2022, making it quite recent. The host is Rudi Bremer, where Gamilaroi girl Loren Ryan sing rainbow song in Gamilaraay version. It is ABC kids listen podcast which explores Indigenous languages from all over Australia. It is presented by Indigenous group and in the website ABC kids acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land. This resource shows diverse knowledge of Country across language groups. No derogatory names are used. No Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are pictured. This resource give details representation of the language name and its origin (YARNS, Shay, M., & Oliver, R, 2021, p.145).

Standard 2, Focus area 2.4 links to the above resources where teacher demonstrate broad knowledge of, understanding of and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and language by using this resource with children (Australian Standard Professional for Teachers, 2010, p.4). 

This resource will help children to interact verbally and non-verbally with others for a range of purpose and develop their communication skills. This is evident when children use language and representation from play and music to share and project meaning (The Early Years Learning Framework for Australia, Learning Outcome 5.1, 2009, p.40). Through this experience educators will promote greater understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ways of knowing and being ( The Early Years Learning Framework for Australia, 2009, p.13).

Owen Stanley Bidjara man says, ‘If you lose your language you will lose your culture, you lose your identity of who you are (Uniting, 2019)’. Therefore keeping language alive through different experiences can help children to learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people Identity. Jenny Beer Wergaia states that ‘…if we don’t learn our language, then our kids, in future generations will be like us, looking for our identity, going through that identity crisis’ (cited in Nyernila: Listen Continuously by Victorian Aboriginal Corporation for Languages, 2014, p.74).
