Frankenstein is an epistolary novel, which is a novel written as a series of documents. Epistolary form can add greater realism to a story, as it mimics the workings of real life. It is able to demonstrate differing points of view without recourse to the device of an omniscient narrator. Mary Shelley uses letters and the point of view of Frankenstein, Walton and the creature.
