I read this when I was in late elementary school and had a ton of questions about what was happening to me as I "matured." This book made me feel more comfortable about things and made everything more normal. I started reading these at the suggestion of my mother as well (she knows what types I enjoy), and I kept going back to the bookstore to get additional volumes - even looking for them on audio books as well. Kay Scarpetta is a medical examiner who works with a police detective to solve crimes. The science is fascinating (Cornwell is also a medical examiner), and the plots are engaging.
