My name is Jacob Naasz, I am working to become a full time teacher in secondary education. As of now, I am currently a long-term substitute teacher at Chandler High and I teach biology. Overall, what fuels me in this profession is empowering other students. I throughly enjoy teaching emotional, social, academic, and coping skills for success in and outside of the classroom. Seeing a student build confidence, competency, and having a greater sense of who they are all lead to an incredible sense of fulfillment. I am now seeking to attain a teaching certificate and hopefully be soon hired for full time employment.

I graduated from ASU in 2023 with a bachelors in counseling and psychology. I immediately went into a masters program at University of Phoenix. I started substitute teaching at this time, and I had no idea how much I would enjoy it. Due to a few concerns with UPOX's program, I decided to put that on pause and focus on getting a teaching certification. My studies were centered around disabilities, learning, and how trauma effects the brain. I am very grateful to have this background as it has greatly assisted in areas such as classroom management, relationships, and content delivery.

One of my primary passions is photography. It is very long story, but I actually became a photographer due to teacher completely changing my life. I started when I was in 8th grade and have done it ever since! Throughout this time I have done, sports, wedding, commercial, portraits, families, and now landscape photography. This art helped inspire to become a counselor and has made me a significantly better teacher and person. I once had a full-time business until a serious illness, and I am now eagerly rebuilding it.

In terms of teaching, my primary concern is social atmosphere of the classroom. If the class is hostile, not welcoming, or engaged it's going to make subsequent priorities more of a challenge. I lead my classroom with a lot of love and logic, I am a relational type of teacher. My motto is consequence yourself for better or worse. For instance, if I have a student that is trying to turn something in past the due date I ask "Did you request an extension?" If they replied no, I follow up with a learning opportunity to teach them how to write those types of messages to myself and other teachers. That way the next time something is late they know how to follow proper procedures and understand my expectations. Life happens! I have had several students in the process of moving, family trauma, to simply being too overwhelmed. My end goal is to always help empower students, but I also not afraid to allow natural consequences to follow suit.
