This is something I struggled with as a young student growing up, so it is very relatable. While knowing key vocabulary in a lesson can be essential for a student in order for them to understand the lesson, there can be ways to go about it. One way to help with this is to overall be supportive and helpful to the student. Often these students will not speak up about a word they do not understand, so be sure to allow that student to get comfortable with you as a teacher, so they do ask you questions. The second thing I would do would provide the student with daily visual aids of new vocabulary words so their vocabulary knowledge increases. This book is a supportive and upbeat story that reassures readers that they are capable, and can use smart strategies to help themselves learn. I liked this book, because of the depiction of a diverse group of students, who are learning to understand that they all learn differently.
