Avert partners with independant organizations in sub-Sarahan Africa.

Who runs/works for this organization? Avert works with local organizations in southern Africa to make projects that are run by localpeople and respond to the needs of the communities.

What is their misson? Their mission is to prevent HIV/AIDS by giving access to antiretrovial treatments and giving care to children already orphaned by HIV/AIDS.

What strategies are they using to meet this objective? Avert's Community Program works with local organizations that work to avert the spread of HIV/AIDS, and to improve the treatment and care of people infected or affected by HIV/AIDS. They also work to educate people about HIV/AIDS.

Why are these strategies effective or ineffective? I think that these strategies will be effective once they become even more widespread.

Who founded the organization? The founders of Hope for Nigeria are Abby Toews and Mirjam Schwarz.

Who runs/works for this organization? The founders work with volunteers, a few workers, and local people to run their projects in Nigeria.

What is their mission? Their mission is to help children in Nigeria already orphaned by HIV/AIDS by offering them better education, a steady food supply, and somewhere safe to live.

What strategies/programs/projects are they using to meet this objective? Hope for Nigeria has opened up three orphanages in Nigeria and are already working on a fourth. They work to supply food for the orphans and help with their physical and mental health by having a nurse in each orphanage. The children in these orphanages are given an education and a chance to be a kid. They work with locals to find out the needs of these children and meet them. They provide for the children and give opportunities that these orphans wouldn't otherwise have.

Why are these strategies effective or ineffective? These strategies are becoming more effective as more orphanages open up and more opportunities are given to the orphans. These strategies are effective because they help the children that have already been orphaned by HIV/AIDS.

How is this organization funded? This organization relies on donations from the public to fund their project. They also host fundraisers for this project. Some of these fundraisers include auctions, concerts, and marathons.

How can you get involved? You can get involved by volunteering in these orphanages or donating to Hope for Nigeria. You can donate online at their website or mailing in a check. You can also set up fundraisers such as an auction, a car wash, a raffle, or any fundraisers of that sort.

Contact Information:

Website: www.hopefornigeria.ca

Telephone: 1-204-987-6543

Email: walidz@stu.hsd.ca

Mailing Address:

Hope for Nigeria

43 Main Street

Steinbach, MB

R0A 2A0

Canada
