One of the few things I have learnt from the canon training are the different types of modes on the camera. Firstly there is aperture priority. In this mode, the user is able to only change the aperture and iso, and the shutter speed is set automatically by the camera. Next, there is the shutter speed priority, which allows the user to change the shutter speed and iso. The aperture will be set automatically by the camera in this mode. Other than the modes on the camera, I also learnt about photo composition techniques. One of the new composition techniques I have learnt through this course is juxtaposition, which is having two subjects that are opposite in nature such as fire and water, black and white etc. Another composition technique I learnt is the rule of odds. The rule of odds means having an odd number of subjects in the photo, which makes the photo look nicer. With all this knowledge that I have gained from this course, I can definitely put them to use by applying them when taking my OSOS photos. For my OSOS photos, I can definitely use the composition techniques I learnt from the course like, rule of odds, rule of thirds and leading lines. In addition, I can also apply the different types of focus that I learnt through the course. For example, the AI Servo focus mode, which helps the user to track and focus on fast moving subjects. Next, an area I would like to explore in photography would be street photography. I feel that the department has been taking the same pictures or subjects over the past few years and I would like to explore something different. Also street photography is a relaxed type of photography, as we do not need to rush changing the settings and we can take our time. Lastly, an activity we can do as a department to apply what we have learnt is going out to different places or events. Maybe the department could go to sporting events to apply what we learnt about sport photography. Maybe we could go to Gardens by the Bay to apply macro photography of the flowers.
