“We don’t need anything. We’re fine”quote from Rose Mary Walls. Throughout the book, the parents would always neglect the children and would have a bad lifestyle. At the end of the book Jeannette accepts the fact that her parents could never change no matter how much help they got. In the image Jeannette seems upset that her mother still lives how she used to even though now she has a good place to live without having to worry about anything.

“ you took our money... that’s what happened “ this quote was from Jeannette. Jeannette realizes how her father really is. Her breaking point was when she finds out that her father broke Oz and took their money that they had saved up. At this point is when Jeannette come of age in my opinion because it makes her think about what's been causing all the problems and that her father really doesn’t care about the children. She never wanted to believe this but now she does. Broken piggy bank is for when Jeannette blames her dad for breaking Oz and taking the money that was in him ans when she comes of age.

“We had some times, didn't we?'
'We did.'
'Never did build that Glass Castle.'
'No. But we had fun planning it.”
This was a conversation between Rex and Jeannette. He promised her that they would build the glass castle but at the end that promise turned into nothing. The picture represents the broken glass from the castle that was never built.

“ I was still standing on the chair, swatting at the fire with the fork I had been using to stir the hotdog.” Jeannette was left alone cooking hotdogs at the age of three years old. A normal and responsible parent would never leave a three year old unattended specially leave the child cooking on their own.

“Have I ever let you down?” “He started chuckling because he knew there was only one way I could ever answer that question. I just smiled. And then closed the door.” Jeannette knows her father has let her down a lot of times but towards the end of the book when her father had been diagnosed with a rare tropical disease, he asks her if he has ever let her down and she just smiles. Jeannette forgives her dad for all the bad things he’s done and for all the times he had let her down. She always loved her dad no matter what. The image represents Jeannette leaving all the bad stuff behind and moving on .

"Once you go on welfare it changes you. Even if you get off welfare, you never escape the stigma that you were a charity case. You're scarred for life."The parents never wanted any source of help not even welfare. Rex and Rose Mary always thought that they could provide for the family but each time Rex had a stable job he would quit and go back to his old habits. The family needed help but the parents didn’t want to feel as If they couldn’t provide. The empty plate represents the kids plates each time they couldn't get any source of food.
