Atticus quotes Chapter 1: “He played with us, he read to us and treated us with courteous detachment.” He treats them as grownups however they still have respect for him and call him ‘sir’. THEME: Respect Chapter 3: “you never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view… until you climb into his skin and walk around in it” Don’t judge anyone until you know what their story is. THEME: Injustice “A gang of wild animals can be stopped, simply because they’re still human.”Everyone is still human, but they follow people’s traits one after another. Treat each other with respect. THEME: Injustice, Racism “When he gave us our air rifles, Atticus wouldn’t teach us to shoot.” “Shoot all the blue jays you want but it is a sin to kill a mocking Bird” CONTEXT: 1930’s in the deep south there was a lot of racism and prejudice. Many black men were accused or put on death row for something innocent that they did not do .THEME: Prejudice

Prejudice: p9 “inside the house lived a malevolent phantom” its predudice towards boo, and its only rumors. The description of the house as well represents what its like on the inside. They don’t know anything about boo but they are still judging him. Prejudice: p27 “hes just a Cunningham” its predudice towards walter. She dosent treat him like hes as good as she is because he dosent have as much money. Shes inpresionable, that’s what society has taught her. Prejudice: p27 “don’t matter who they are, anybody sets foot in this house’s yo’ comp’ny” Calpurnia is not predudice. She has experienced predudice and racism and dosent want scout to be like that Prejudice: "wouldn’t do any good,” she said. “They can’t read.” - this shows prejudice as it shows that little to no black/coloured people have had a good enough education to teach them to read. Prejucdice: Chpt12” The Ku Klux Klan’s gone,” said Atticus. “It’ll never come back”’ p162 highlights that one point there was an organised lynch mob dedicated to killing black people within Atticus’ living memory predudice: “hes gone and drowned his dinner in syrup” p 27 shows scouts lack of education on poverty and peoples situation during the great depression.

Predudice: p187 “maycomb’s Ewells lived behind the town garbage dump in what was once a negro cabin.” Bob ewell is so predudice because he dosent want to be associated with them, so he is overally predudice
prejudice: cf
“Put my bag in the front bedroom, Calpurnia,” - this shows prejudice as Aunt Alexandra is showing Cal no respect and just expects Cal to silently do her bidding.
