One song that is very important to me is Rocky Mountain High by John Denver. Growing up this song was always played in my house and it reminds me of my family and my childhood which are two things that are very important to me. John Denver plays a big role in my life! A movie I love is Walk the Line. This movie is about Johnny Cash who has to be one of my favorite artist. This movie takes you through Cash's childhood and all the way through his fame. It shows all the hardships that came in his life and I really love the growth he shows.

This is a picture of me without a mask on and three things I would like you to know is I love surfing, I am from Rhode Island, and my friends and family are my favorite people!

Why do you think the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) was so interested in pursuing individuals in the film industry during the Cold War? Was HUAC justified in going after the film industry in this manner during that time period? Why or why not?

The House Un-American Activities Committee was not a good committee for Americans. Neither was it good for the movie industry in general. The House Un-American Activities Committee held 9 days of hearings into alleged communist propaganda to influence the Hollywood movie industry. The HUAC would pressure witnesses to spill names and other information that could lead to more understanding about the communist sympathizers. So after all that you might still be wondering, what was the purpose of having this committee? Well, there purpose was to investigate professed disloyalty on the part of private citizens possibly having communist ties. They also tried to force propaganda through movies which was not good for the movie industry.

Just by reading that article I can already tell that this movie is very touchy with problems going on in the world. They are touchy because people are scared to talk about it but this leads to the problem not being recognized. This problem, is racism. This movie will really show and put attention on racism and all the bad things about it. It will require us to think about this problem in the world and really leaves you no other choice than to recognize it.

In Bob Dylan's song, "Master of War" he says, "You fasten all the triggers. For the others to fire. Then you set back and watch. When the death count gets higher". This song has a lot of meaning, and it all has to do with war. Bob Dylan didn't necessarily try to make this song an anti war sing even though it may come off that way. He was more talking about the War leaders and hoe they put these horrible jobs up to people that don't want to. Saying that these people sit back and watch the violence happen.

Bob Dylan also wrote another important song about war. Here, he was talking about Word War III happening and the song is called "Talkin Work War III". One important thing Dylan says, "One time ago a crazy dream came to me. I dreamt I was walking to World War Three. I went to the doctor the very next day. To see what kind of words he could say. He said it was a bad dream." I can see Bob Dylan talking about world peace here. Saying he has been stressing and dreaming about a World War III and by the end of the song he talks about everyone feeling the same way.

The song "Don't think twice, its alright" is a very emotional and touching song. This song may not have anything to do with the world but Bob Dylan is talking about the women he loves, "When your rooster crows at the break a dawn. Look out your window and I'll be gone. You're the reason I'm trav'lin' on. Don't think twice, it's all right" He is singing about his love for bis girlfriend who moved off to Italy and the way he views it. This same women being sung about is on the album cover and has a lot to do with what is being said in this album

It was hard rock. Which is very different from most music in the 80s which made it unique.

What did you find unexpected or surprising when watching those videos? Why?

He really opened up about the music and explained how it was made, probably because no one can really beat nirvana because they are pretty “one and only” it was cool to see the music broke down and where it started.

How would Nevermind have completely changed the music industry, based on what you watched? What makes you say that?

It transformed it and opened the door to sort of a new genre. No all these irreplaceable band started becoming famous opening new opportunities to artists.

I thoughtWhat new things have you learned about American history through studying pop culture?

I feel like I got a really good understanding on the decades, trends. And big events, that went on in history. It is amazing what music can teach you.

What is a piece of pop culture you learned about this semester that you will take with you in the future?

One thing that really stuck with me was learning about the 60’s and woodstock time period, the way society changed people for the better. The strictness of society opened many people up to except other people more tryin g to run away from society.

How has your understanding of modern US History grown throughout this course? Where did you start and where did you end up?

I started knowing most of this history but this class taught me the importance of that history and why I should pay more attention to it. The true and deeper meaning behind history.

Link to your favorite song we listened to, and what you think is the best movie scene we watched and explain your choices.

For a sling, I couldn’t chose a specific one but I thought the study on “Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club” was so interesting and really was a summary on that whole time period.
https://youtu.be/gLlWIfKO0sU

For a move I obviously chose “Do The Right Thing”, this movie really shows the importance of black lives and the equality that is needed in this world. I gives Kids a sense of reality.
