What are some arguments for students to use AI tools in the classroom?

An important thing to remember about this technology is that it is highly unlikely that it will ever go away. Because of this fact, teachers should be the ones to show their students acceptable ways to use it and incorporate it into their assignments. If teachers take charge and openly talk about it, students may be less likely to use AI in unacceptable ways. Another reason AI should be used in the classroom is because it isn’t always bad. Students can use it to make student guides or flesh out ideas that they might write a paper on. They can use it in creative and timesaving ways that don’t damage their educational experience.

What are some concerns about kids using AI tools?

One major issue with AI is the possibility of it presenting biased or flat out wrong information as fact. If a kid is asking AI a question, it is probably because they don’t know the answer, so it’s certainly not good for them to receive a wrong one. Another concern is that kids and students will use AI to cheat on assignments by having AI do it for them. This is the exact opposite of what school is for, and therefore not a good thing. They won’t truly learn if they don’t put in any effort.

•What are some arguments for students to use AI tools in the classroom?

There are many negatives when it comes to AI, but it can also be extremely beneficial in the classroom. My current history teacher has us use AI to answer different questions each lecture. The AI gives us summaries of our notes in class and creates good questions to ask. The summaries it gives helps me understand the lecture's key points because it gives me a second chance to review the material covered without having to read 45 minutes worth of notes. I also have AI make me a study schedule for each exam that I have. I do this by pasting the review packet and then I have it layout a schedule for me that will allow me to get to all of the material within the amount of time I have to study. As someone with a reading comprehension disorder, AI has been extremely helpful because it provides me short and easy to understand summaries of what I read. This allows me to review the material and double check I didn't miss anything.

•What are some concerns about kids using AI tools?

There are definitely a lot of concerns when it comes to kids using AI tools. It isn't good for kids to start relying on AI tools when completing school assignments and homework. This will hold them back from learning and growing as students. AI also often gives incorrect information or answers, so it could cause students to become even more confused, or it could cause them to learn incorrect material. Overall, it isn't good for students to start relying on only AI and having AI do all work for them.

I think there are benefits of using AI but there are also some downfalls. A few positives for students using AI can be the feedback and "help" aspect. If a student is really lost or just doesn't understand the explanation that the teacher is giving, AI tools can help simplify the question or break it down in a more manageable way. Another positive can be the creativity AI can spark in students. AI can be used as a brainstorming tool and help get ideas going for projects or whatever it may be. AI can serve as a starting point for many students. On the other hand, one of the negative aspects of students using AI can be the loss of critical thinking skills in students. If they are depending too much on AI to help get them through school or homework it can impact their critical thinking and problem solving skills. Another negative is the accuracy of the information given or if it's trusted. There is an element of BIAS in any AI tool so it's for sure something to keep in mind when using AI.

There are some arguments that many people use to convince that AI should be used in the classroom. One argument is that it can be a tool to assist in researching. AI tools can help students search the web for different sources, articles, books, or videos relating to a topic they are looking into. This can help cut down on unnecessary time spent looking for sources on their own. Another argument for students using AI in the classroom is the summarization aspect. AI can help students and teachers summarize a text rather than having to read the whole thing. This can help cut down on time spent reading and limit the unnecessary information.

On the other hand, there are many concerns about the use of AI in the classroom. One big problem is that AI is not always accurate. I have experienced this firsthand and now understand that I can not always trust AI. This is a big concern for many teachers because they want their students to learn the correct information. Another problem is that using AI can lead to cheating or misuse of the software. Some students may choose to use AI to do their assignments for them, like taking exams or writing essays.

I think there are both benefits and concerns with the usage of AI. I think AI can be very beneficial for helping develop ideas and expand on explanations and help move forward with ideas. Using AI can build critical thinking skills by asking students guiding questions and prompting them to explain their reasoning. It also encourages deeper thinking by presenting multiple perspectives or solutions for students to evaluate and compare.

There can be downfalls though, students may become over dependent on AI for answers or writing help which they eventually end up using instead of thinking independently or developing their own ideas. With this also comes students allowing AI to complete assignments and work completely which increases the changes of plagiarism and lack of students genuinely learning.

Using AI in the classroom can have its pros and cons. When we think of AI we think of students using it to get out doing work and to cheat. While this is the case most times, teachers can encourage appropriate AI usage to help them in the classroom that does not involve cheating. An example is to use it to help students learn how to study or prepare for tests. They can do this by uploading notes they have taken or slides from class and ask it to test them. This can prepare them for exams so they feel confident. Its a tool they can use until they are done with schooling and allows them to not have to make it up. They can see different questions and be able to answer it in different ways. Another way students could use AI tools in the classroom that is appropriate would be if they need to think of different topics for an assignment. They could use it to get ideas and be able to start what they want to work on. Not asking AI to create the assignment for them, but allowing students to ask it for smaller topics of a larger topic. The students can have different ideas and express their ideas to AI and it could help them be able to see the different options for them. The cons with AI is sometimes students take advantage of AI. They see it as something that helps with assignments. While using it to learn is okay, but using it to get answers and put that down is not correct. Another concern is that students use it so they dont need to learn. Grades are such a stressor for students, so using AI to get the answers is going to push them back because they are using it for easy grades rather than getting ready for exams.

I could see this perspective, as many use it now and it is important to know and learn the ethical ways on how to use it. Furthermore, if it is used in your profession as an adult you will need experience. Students are oftentimes using it anyways.

AI can provide false information as shown in the previous lesson, it comes from a biased standpoint and people need to be aware of this. Plus, kids using AI reduces kids having to use their own critical thinking which affects their own development and ability to critically think in their future career. It is a domino of a negative effect.

AI tools are becoming more common in classrooms, and there are strong arguments for their use. First, AI can offer personalized learning by adjusting to each student’s pace and style. This helps students better understand challenging material. Second, AI provides instant feedback, allowing students to learn from their mistakes right away rather than waiting for a teacher’s correction.

However, there are also valid concerns.

1- Will students become over reliant on AI? Students might depend too much on AI and stop developing critical thinking or independent problem-solving skills. Over time, this can reduce their confidence in tackling tasks without digital help, making them less prepared for real-world challenges.

2- Does the use of AI challenge academic integrity? With AI’s ability to generate answers quickly, some students might be tempted to use it to cheat or avoid doing their own work, which can harm their long-term learning.

AI in education has great potential, but it should be used carefully and with clear guidance to support, not replace, student learning.

By limiting students, we are putting them at a disadvantage and not equipping them for real, everyday, work life. Additionally, some argue that AI is impactful in research, writing, and can provide students with immediate feedback where teachers can't always do so.

Some concerns about students using AI tools include arguments against the academic integrity of AI. When students are able to quickly plug questions, essays, etc. into AI and gain immediate responses, where does their learning occur. Assignments and assessments are not solely for grade purposes, but for students to demonstrate their learning and teachers to gain understanding of where their students are in the classroom. With AI use, teachers can't be sure of the knowledge of their students and their learning of content and abilities. Additionally, AI is not perfect and often provides false or stretched information. These programs get information from the internet, which doesn't always have true information.

AI tools in the classroom can offer both exciting opportunities and important challenges. On the positive side, according to Pew Research, students can use tools like ChatGPT to boost their learning efficiency by generating ideas, improving writing, and breaking down complex concepts, skills that many teens already use to help with schoolwork. Additionally, introducing students to AI in education prepares them for a future where digital literacy and AI fluency will be essential. However, concerns remain about overreliance and academic integrity. If students begin to rely on AI to complete their assignments without engaging with the material, it can hinder real learning and raise plagiarism issues. Another challenge is that AI doesn’t always provide accurate information; without strong guidance and fact-checking, students may be misled by errors or biased content. Ultimately, while AI has real potential to support learning, it must be used responsibly and with clear boundaries in place.

AI tools can be helpful in the classroom for a couple of reasons. They offer personalized support by adjusting to each student’s learning pace, helping them grasp difficult concepts more easily. They also improve accessibility, offering features like translation and text-to-speech that support students with disabilities or language barriers.

Still, there are valid concerns. Some students may use AI to cheat by having it complete assignments for them, which can prevent real learning. Also, AI tools can sometimes give biased or inaccurate information, which may confuse students who don’t verify their sources.

For example, if someone struggles with math, AI can provide extra practice or simpler explanations that are easier to understand. 2: AI can help students organize their work and access information quickly. Tools like grammar checkers can make learning more efficient for students who need extra support or have different learning needs.

What are some concerns about kids using AI tools? 1: One major worry is that students might start depending too much on AI, using it to do the thinking for them instead of learning.

AI has many pros and cons, and I will say I am still to this day very wary of it. However, there are many pros and cons to it. Some of the pros that comes with AI in the classroom include helping break down topic information in a new way that may be simpler for students to understand. For example, you can ask AI to explain a specific science topic in simpler terms or in a child-like way and it will. This can help students with comprehension. Another pro to it is that it can be used as a tool to get help immediately with homework. Now, this can also be abused and can also become a crutch that is not a good practice to start. However, using it to ask a few questions to help with homework can be very helpful. Now, some of the concerns that can come with using AI tools is abusing the system by turning in work that is not authentic to the student, asking it to write your assignments and give answers. This takes away the point of learning if it can always answer for the students. Another concern is that students will become completely reliant on it and use it for everything. AI can also produce false answers, so while it can be helpful, it is always best to do your full research and encourage students to use several other sources to back up their research done via AI and any answers they may have received from it.

There are clear benefits to allowing students to use AI tools in the classroom, but there are also downsides. AI can help tailor instruction to meet individual learning needs, helping students understand material at their own pace. It also gives students the opportunity to build digital skills and learn how to interact responsibly with new technologies as well. On the other hand, there are valid concerns. Students might rely too heavily on AI, which could weaken their ability to think critically or solve problems without assistance. Additionally, because AI tools are not always accurate and may reflect biases, there’s a risk of students receiving misleading information if they aren't taught how to use these tools thoughtfully.

Argument for student use of AI tools:

Personalized help and support

AI tools (like the kid version of ChatGPT on KidsChatGPT) can really help students learn at their own pace. You can ask questions anytime, get quick answers, and practice things you don’t understand. It’s like having a mini tutor who’s always available. For example, if you’re stuck on a tricky writing prompt or confused by a new vocabulary word, AI can explain it more simply.

This can especially help ESL/ELL students or those who don’t always get one-on-one help in class — it gives them an extra layer of support when the teacher’s busy.

Allows teachers more time for deeper learning

AI can handle some of the smaller, time-consuming tasks like checking understanding or creating practice questions. That frees teachers to focus on things like discussions, projects, and connecting with students. It also supports digital equity by giving everyone access to extra learning help outside of class.

When used responsibly, AI doesn’t replace teaching — it makes learning more engaging and personalized.

Concerns about student use of AI tools:

Over-reliance and skill loss

One big concern is that students might start using AI too much and skip the hard parts of learning. If AI writes your essay or solves your math problem, you’re not actually building those skills yourself. That can hurt long-term learning, especially for students who already struggle and need more guided practice.

Accuracy, bias, and honesty

AI tools can sound smart but still give wrong or biased answers. Plus, there’s the issue of academic honesty — some students might use AI to do their work instead of learning from it. A Pew Research study even found that about one in five teens has used ChatGPT for schoolwork.

That’s why it’s super important to teach kids how to use AI responsibly — checking facts, understanding bias, and using it as a learning tool instead of a shortcut. It’s all part of being a good digital citizen.

In my history class last year, we used AI a lot and talked about different ways to use it smartly. One way I really appreciated it was when we used it to summarize old, official documents. These documents are important to what we are learning, but can be very challenging to understand. AI broke it down for us and made it much easier to understand and use. If I wanted to think of a workout routine, AI can provide me a foundation and ideas to build off of. It is also great at summarizing texts, especially super bulky academic sources. I learned a lot about that function of Google Sheet because AI helped me build it.

Cons:

AI can completely take over for a student. If you want a student to think critically about a text and write about it, that is completely lost if ChatGPT writes the whole essay for you. The data that ChatGPT uses can also be very flawed. I asked AI to make me a March Madness bracket for last year, and it pulled teams that were not competing, players that had graduated 5-6 years ago, and it took hand feeding very strict and specific prompts to get any sort of a result.

One reason students should use AI is because it can review their work and give feedback based on a given rubric. If the students do their work first and seek extra feedback before submitting they are possibly receiving a deeper understanding. Another reason students should use AI is to help with brainstorming or organizational ideas. One reason students should not use AI tools is because the information can be inaccurate or even biased. Students may take AI’s information as true without further investigation resulting in inaccurate learning and even submitting inaccurate work. Another reason students should not use AI is because they may rely too heavily on it to do their work for them, in turn decreasing their problem solving skills.

One of the arguments for students using AI tools in the classroom is that they are likely to use it anyway, so if you as an educator can get ahead and teach them how to use it and how to use it appropriately, then it should be a tool they can use in the classroom. My opinion is that it is kind of equivalent to a calculator. You can use a calculator to do math but you still need to know the formulas in order to get the right answer.

A second argument for students using AI in the classroom is that it can be used to create learning tools like study guides. It can help students who need help condensing the information they have taken in so that they have a concise way to study.

The first concern about using AI tools is that students might use AI to complete their assignments. When it is used this way, the students are not applying what they actually know. They might do the assignment wrong, or their instructor cannot assess whether they actually know the content.

A second concern is that chatGPT isn’t correct all of the time. It is built to predict the best answer for what is fed into it, and so it can lead to the spread of misinformation. When used on an assignment made up by the teacher, it cannot personalize the assignment to specific parameters, so the answers will generally be wrong and that wastes the student and teacher’s time.

When thinking about AI tools in the classroom, there are some clear benefits but also important concerns to keep in mind. On the positive side, AI can offer personalized support that helps students learn at their own pace and get explanations tailored to their needs. It also gives them valuable experience with technology they’ll likely use in future careers, building digital literacy and comfort with emerging tools.

At the same time, there are reasons to be cautious. Relying too much on AI can weaken students’ critical-thinking and problem-solving skills if they lean on it to do the work for them. There’s also the issue of accuracy as AI tools can sometimes provide incorrect or biased information, which younger learners may not always catch. Balancing these advantages and concerns is key to using AI responsibly in education.

There are a variety of components to consider when discussing the use of AI in a classroom. I believe that the use of AI for students can be beneficial to their learning as it can provide personalized learning support. Students are able to give the AI tools data that is based on their ability to process information which might help students that need extra assistance. Additionally, AI can help students build skills needed for the future such as digital literacy. Having students be surrounded by AI tools at a young age teaches them appropriate technology knowledge and how to use technology to support their learning. With these positive aspects, there are also a number of concerns for using AI. The first consequence for using AI could be the possibility of students becoming over reliant on AI, to the point of them not thinking through problems which inhibits independent learning. Additionally, because AI is still a growing field, there's a variety of misinformation that might be shared which would give students a false sense of understanding. It's important for students to be able to use AI tools while also looking for other resources to support their learning.

AI tools can be extremely helpful in the classroom until they are used in a dishonest manner. Since I am planning on teaching secondary education, I know that students have easy access and are becoming very familiar with AI tools. Since this is an adaptation we will begin to see regularly in our lives, it is best to embrace it in a positive manner. For high school students, you could use AI to generate ideas for a speech or research paper. AI can also help establish roles when completing a group project so each student contributes what is expected. Also, if the students are wanting instant feedback on an answer, project, or idea they are able to immediately get an answer with generative AI tools. On the other hand, there are concerns for using AI tools. For instance, using AI to complete your entire research paper rather than to give ideas about topics to research. Another concern is the information students are willing to give AI. Since AI learns from what it is told, it could be harmful for students to give AI their person information. AI can be beneficial to enhance creativity or to provide a response however it can continue to be used in a way that is more harmful than helpful.

What are some arguments for students to use AI tools in the classroom?

If you teach students how to use AI responsibly, children can use it to their advantage and to further their learning. It can help them learn more about a topic, get feedback, complete research, and practice writing better.

AI can also help students stay organized. If they want a schedule or are struggling coming up with a daily routine, AI can help them generate a personalized one with their classes, assignments and syllabuses.

What are some concerns about kids using AI tools?

One major concern is that kids would become too reliant on tools like ChatGPT, or other AI resources, rather than doing their own work. Over use of AI has an effect of losing creativity, and originality- something that is already being seen in marketing and media.

Another concern is that you often have to complete your own research when using AI because it only uses the resources it has been taught to use- often leading to inaccurate answers or explanations.
