The technology and the people: A reflective essay by Frealyn Amindalan

As we all know technology is always there for us when we get lonely but
technology has ruined our communication skills the way of communication that we need to have a conversation with people. Technology and conversing is different, people nowadays use gadgets or computers in order to communicate with other people but is it necessary to only just use technology as our way on how we communicate.
Sherry Turkle’s “Connected, but alone” ted talk spokes about on how technology had created an impact in our everyday lives that we tend to chat with other people than to talk to them in real life or face-to-face. In her speech she stated a lot of facts that the people might be related on that we humanity today do these things. We love taking selfies, shoot our own self that we are highly obsessed on sharing, posting publicly in social media. We created a lot or a hundred social media accounts for us just to engage in the internet. But for me technology is a distraction that would greatly affect in our society.
The statements that were discussed by Sherry Turkle:
“Alone, together” meaning we gathered together or say for instance I invited my friends to my house to have a group gathering but the worst scenario is that we didn’t talk we just zipped our mouths and use only our phones that we tend to have our own world that we really don’t appreciate the presence with each other. I agreed to this statement because people especially the millennials had engage or adapted in the use of technology that they only expressed their feelings through texting to their friends than to genuinely go and have a real conversation with them or that when we met our friends we don’t dare to speak that we always use our tiny gadgets even though we are together.
“We expect more from technology and less from each other” in this statement I therefore agree because in our society today we get to text and text our friends, further have long calls together but when it comes to face-to-face conversations we tend to be awkward and have a short speech with each other or that we wouldn’t wonder if the person we are chatting on is being honest with us that their main focus is on the phone. Even while we are in some places nearer or that we are too close with each other we still tend to text instead of saying “Hi, how are you?, Good to see you today” it is like we are snubbing with each other.
“We are tempted by machines that offer companionship” all the phones that we used daily, we can state that we treated them as a companion or a friend like “I love my phone and this is my only friend” that it is like a sickness that people are obsessed with that they tend not to let it go. It creates an illusion that they are like real people even though they are not. People were suffering nowadays due to lacking of companions that there only companion is the technology.
