As stated previously nuclear weapons were a huge part of the competition between the US and the USSR. there was competition in who could have the most and most powerful nuclear weapon.

The USSR was the first to send something to outer space but the US was the first to land a men spaceship on the moon wonts again creating more competition

The third would be competing in sports specifically in the Olympics. One of the biggest events would be when the US beat the USSR in hockey in 1980. This was one of the biggest upsets of all time.

One could be the newfound want and need to ban and or shut down nuclear weapons. After people witnessed the destruction of Nagasaki/Hiroshima and the cold war mass production of new more powerful weapons, people began hate what these weapons could do; the comparison would be how people's mindsets change. First people saw the need, and then after the need was gone people started to hate them. The second could be the fact that arms rise never really ended. Nations still care about having a stronger army and powerful weapons to equip that army. A third could be a smaller nation trying to gain power by making and producing new nuclear weapons. More and more small nations are rising to power just by the fact that they have a stronger army than their neighboring nations.
