Would liberal system ownership will be more effective compared to government ownership in increasing public trust towards media?

The motivation for studying this topic?
I want to know why media sometimes less neutral regarding their news neutrality. Might be this is why public have lower trust to media. One primary cause may be because of the influence from the owner. There is two major ownership in general, government and real business person. Media who owned by government tend to support the authority. In contrast, media who were belonging to a business person seems more focus on the quality of their news production and oppose or even do not care about the government. So I need to know what system that would be more trusted by the public regarding media neutrality. Is it government-owned media which always broadcast the government interest or private media which focus only on their business?

The Journal primary focus is to investigate whose media that trusted by the public in sixteen African countries, whether they believe in public media who owned by a government or private media. The researchers use data from Afrobarometer surveys rounds 2 and 3 to examine mass confidence in public broadcast versus private broadcast. Even though the initial expectations predict that most respondents will have higher trust in private media, the result shows the opposite. In fact, the state-owned media have the stigma about past authoritarian regimes, while private media are independent.

The survey reveals that the public has the higher level of trust in government owned media rather than in private media. There are some major factors influence this result; low political sophistication, illiberal attitudes, and support for incumbents. Furthermore, the researchers suggest that private media should increase their democratic and criticism environment, rather than improve quality reporting and higher press freedom. Overall, majority citizens in participated African countries believe their government media because they are still conservative, while those who not satisfied with the president performance tend to oppose it.

This study represents around one-third of whole African countries, which is all are developing countries in democracy. Therefore, this research suitable with my research question to compare which ownership system will be efficient to raise public trust in Indonesia. However, these research not even half of the African continent regarding the number of sample respondent. If this study conducted at least half or even in a vast majority, it will be more valid.

The study focuses on examining the complexity of social media, traditional media, both of its users and the institution by paying attention to social media logic. This logic is the basic foundation of the social media including the norms, strategies and economic aspects that running under its dynamic. In particular, the research finds that social media as a not neutral platform that influence in people social life. As well as mass media which already claimed that its spread too rapid that need to be filtered to get better understand by the public. Also, this journal also states about the nature of media that only attract public attention by an issue and keep them stay for some period. Once they are bored, they will find other interesting problems and the cycles continue. Therefore, this journal believes that there are no neutral media are exists. The author came from western countries which admit that there is no neutral platform in the form of media.

This journal focuses on how social media can use by third world countries to maintain their cultural agenda to counter Western domination in conventional media. The researcher believes that currently there is some dominance in the developing countries from western nations regarding media. Therefore, the author suggests that local and social media should be encouraged more to appear to compete with western media and to maintain their own culture. Instead of restriction on the growth of local media, the developing countries should use their local source to help them to have their own agendas setting. Since this study uses examples from the own writer country-India which is part of south countries, as a result his point of view is likely opposed western countries. Finally, in relations with my essay, this journal can give the drawbacks side of western nations media, which is running based on liberal system ownership.
