One goal Lysander achieves, is to find The Fire of Ares. His grandfather and Helot friend help him by telling him to keep looking. Lysander realizes that The Fire of Ares is a very important piece of jewelry, and that it was owned by a prince. The Fire of Ares kept him alive all the years that he was fighting. Eventually, Lysander finds it. Another goal Lysander tries to achieve, is to save his mother from a sickness. A deadly one. Sarpedon and Kassandra give her the medication, rest and comfort that she needs. During this process, Lysander finds out that she had a spartan warrior as husband instead of a Helot. Meaning that he is half spartan, which is important later on in the novel.

Theme

A theme found from a novel called The Fire of Ares, is that one man can change the world. One way that Lysander makes this theme exist, is that he persuaded the Helot's to stop killing off the Spartans, and without Lysander's help, all Spartans would eventually die-including his own grandfather. Another theme taken from the book, is to never give up. In the book, Lysander kept on dreaming about becoming a spartan, and although he new it was really hard to become a spartan, he didn't give up and kept training to be a warrior.

One decision Lysander is Lysander chooses to be a Spartan. He’s always wanted to be spartan for his whole life, and what inspired him, was firstly something else, then, it was his own father later in the book. Another decision Lysander makes, is he takes extra training. Becoming a spartan is already extremely difficult, but he took extra training anyway. The people that drove him to do this his grandfather, deceased mother and deceased father.
