"The changes in the
library media specialist’s role from study hall monitor to curriculum designer can certainly be
termed substantive. An analysis of research studies, however, indicates a possible time lag
between the practiced instructional role of the library media specialist and the one espoused in
the literature. In a profession that has undergone such a tremendous amount of change in such a
short period of time, this gap is not surprising." The role is continuing to quickly change with the times and is therefore hard to define for even those in the profession..

"Being a librarian means knowing how to access all types of information. It also means protecting the freedom of information and helping everyone gain access. Librarians are often moral activists. Wars are fought on all different kinds of fronts, and the ones that keep information and privacy free are of the utmost importance to us all. It's comforting to know that there is a trained army ready to fight and protect us from intellectual tyranny."

Short article with magazine covers that reviews topics in the profession from the 1950s to today. In the 1950s the ways the books were arranged and displayed were of utmost importance. The term "Library Media Specialist" came to be into being in the late 1970s. The 1990s gave us the introduction of the WEb and changed how we research forever ... and Harry Potter was released. Great quick look at the changes in the profession.
