Working in public libraries, I have developed an interest in children’s literacy. Resources like diversebooks.org are important for supporting childhood literacy while also ensuring that children have access to literature that represents diverse groups of people. There are also a myriad of tools such as Empatico that can help develop global perspectives further by connecting students with their peers all over the globe.

How can these tools be used to support inquiry into the Holocaust? Xenophobia, intolerance and understanding historic acts of genocide are global issues. The problem is that there is so much information (and misinformation) out there to interact with.

I am consumed with promoting relationship building and trust among my EAL teachers and their students. To me, this is the cornerstone of education. Without strong relationships there is little hope to truly break though and TEACH your students. Aim to be the teacher that students come back and visit year after year. In EAL, a major component of this is recognizing and validating the culture and language of each and every student. This week I explored many tech devices I have experience using, some I am interested to explore further and others I did not know existed. Overall, I chose technology options that I feel support the boasted need for relationship building in virtual settings, student collaboration or connectivism, and transferability or user friendliness. My rationale is supported by both professional experience and the context explored through our course thus far.

This past year was a huge challenge for me transitioning to an online environment for teaching. As primarily a Visual Arts teacher, I struggled finding ways to engage students without access to physical art materials within a classroom. After looking through the resources, I really liked the "anti-racist art resources" guide as I found this was a great resources for cross-curricular learning. I pinned tools that I have used before but I also pinned new ones related to social justice education as this is something I want to embed in all the courses I teach regardless of subject matter. My curated collection of resources reflect three of my interest areas. I have found most of these resource from Gonzalez's (2021) and Read the World: Distance and Digital Learning by Ziemke & Muhtaris.

First, I have included resources that increase my ability to provide students with meaningful descriptive feedback.  Second, as an FSL teacher, I looked for digital resources that can support my learners in developing fluency and phonology. Thirdly, I have included resources that engage students in peer-reflection, and help them develop study-skills. I had never thought of GIFs as educational tools, however in exploring Gonzalez (2021), I discovered how they can be informative through illustrating short instructions amongst other things.
