When Atticus says “it’s a sin to kill the mockingbird” he means Boo radley. He symbolizes as the mockingbird. Throughout the whole book there has been nobody like Boo radley. Atticus means that you can mess with anyone else but don’t mess with Boo radley. You wouldn’t want to kill Boo radley, he has lived there forever and there is nobody like him. He didn’t have to stand up for Tom Robinson but did because he knew what was happening wasn’t right, he doesn’t care what others thought of his actions because he was trying to help Tom. He’s accepting and see’s people not as a color but as an individual, which sets a very good example to his children. Also the judge of the case is white and so that lowers the possibility that Tom will be proven innocent. I of course do not believe this because what actually happened was that Magellan’s father abused her after catching her kissing Tom, an African American. The father is a racist so he didn’t approve and abused his own daughter. Just like Jem I was very upset by this ending and I didn’t accept it as an ending of his case. It is not fair for him to be accused of abuse when Mayellas dad did that, and he shouldn’t be accused of rape when mayella had feelings for Tom and kissed him. She doesn’t even attend the trial and refuses to gossip about toms case. She thinks being quiet is fine but her speaking up saying that she thinks Tom is innocent and that she agrees with Atticus, I feel like would help Tom because he then has another person on his side. Knowing Tom doesn’t have many people on his side and still being quiet about it , I feel like isn’t the best thing to do.
