(Window) This short story is through a Puerto Rican parrot point of view. “We’re nonhuman species capable of communicating with them. Aren’t we exactly what humans are looking for?” It leaves me wondering why are we so interested in finding intelligence life out in the dark and dismiss the species who live here on earth? It makes sense to remain quiet and avoid attracting attention.

(Mirror) As I started reading his poem I could picture myself on the hammock picturing a butterfly over my head and two pines. I love when a poem can be read smoothly and can make me feel or make me picture a scene. Butterfly to horses to cowbells, chicken hawk, but he still feels like he wasted his life. "I have wasted my life." I interpreted it as he feels like he hasn’t done enough with his life.

(Mirror) This short story reminds me of things I have told my daughters and things my mother has told me. We as mothers are sometimes harder on our daughters because they are girls and at the end of the day they get hurt the most or maybe it's just me because I have only daughters. Even though I don't totally agree with some things the mother told her daughter everyone culture is different.

Richard Blanco Queer Theory: According to My Grandmother

(Window) According to My Grandmother was one of my favorites because no matter what anyone tells you love is love and we will grow up to be whoever we want to be. His grandmother seems to be old fashioned and express to him how to be masculine by presenting a long list of things that men should and should not do. In today society it’s easier for a little girl to play with cars than a little boy to play with dolls. Many grandmothers, mothers and fathers are old fashion meaning they raise their boys like their fathers raised them or their brothers.

I want to say this poem is a window because my kids are not old enough where I can feel independent but its also a mirror. The grandmother was finally an independent woman after giving her life to her children and husband. “Children are made in the night and steal your days for the rest of your life, amen.” Was an advice she was giving her daughters from her experience which I believe to be true. Children are a lot of responsibility. Many people don’t understand really how much responsibility children can be until you have one of your own. It can be draining and overwhelming. But they can also be the reason you live for and to never give up. And it all pays off when they are older.

This poem is a mirror for me. I grew up close to mi abuelo even though he was living miles away. His stories from his childhood where always exaggerated. He use to tell me that he use to fight dogs and one very late night he saw the devil in a horse. Even though I knew he wasn’t lying I always got the feeling he was exaggerating. In the latino community no matter if you agree or disagree you have to respect your grandparents and it seems like in this poem they did just that. The grandparents are always right and wiser because they have lived longer.

(Mirror) Life is about growing up and finding the love of your life and building a life with them. If the relationship doesn’t work you wish them the best and move on. But in many relationships that’s not the case. If someone hurts you, you don’t want to wish them the best in the contrary you wish them the worse. This song is unique because in many songs they talk about heartbreak and wishing them the best, not in this song. Throughout our life’s we endure heartbreak.

Yellow Woman by Leslie Marmon Silko has to be one of my favorite stories. It's probably link to my facionation to crime shows and survival kidnap stories. The Yellow Woman was one of the most interesting stories I ever read. She didn't run back home when she had the opportunity because she wanted to get away from her everyday routine. She is kidnapped and she told the kidnapper her name was Yellow Woman because of a story she heard from her grandfather of a woman that was also kidnapped and left her family behind. This story is based on Native American lands and people and they have diffrent belives and routines and I think first we have to understand that to understand the story. I don't believe she fell in love with her kidnapper but she was fascinated by him.
