Well, I've found that this horrible tragedy was caused by an earthquake that occurred off the coast of Chile. The water displacement generating the tsunami. Hitting Hawaii and spreading to places such as Japan and the Philippines.

I read that it was 15 hours after the earthquake when the tsunami hit Hilo Bay. and it was 35 foot wave that traveled 440 miles per hour. also, i also read that more than 500 homes and small businesses were destroyed. even today, there is 32% more unemployment than it should have been and the population is 9% lower.

Goodness, how terrible...I have a few more numbers, unfortunately, The tsunami induced 43 injuries. Moved 20-ton boulders that made up the sea wall 500 feet. Bent parking meters and wiped away most buildings. It was estimated that the damage in Hawaii alone was at $75 million. Including places like Japan the estimate goes up to $400 million...

I see. It seems many parts of the world were effected by the tsunami. It killed and hurt many life. 61 people dead in Hawaii, 180 in Japan, and 32 dead or missing in the Philippines. The earthquake that caused the tsunami created a severe plate shift. And was the largest earthquake ever recorded. The recorded waves in the Atlantic Ocean and Indian Ocean made it the 1st ever recorded tsunami. This meaning the tsunami effected 3 of the 4 Earth systems. The biosphere, geosphere, and hydrosphere.

yes. i'll start with saying that this tsunami provided a natural experiment because tsunamis hadn't happened in Hawaii yet. it helped with new safety protocols, too. what else do you have?

As it is with any disaster, the tsunami taught us how to better handle a tsunami. As the decisions made both saved and cost lives. The actions that saved lives can be repeated. And the actions that cost lives can be avoided and better handled.

well...i think that's enough to use in our project...I'll send you my half of the project when I'm done with it...It would be easier without the pandemic keeping us home...I like to imagine that in a decade or two 7th grade classes would be doing projects on the coronavirus, and we will be the boomers saying, BaCk iN mY DaYs...well i guess its time for me to go...bye!
