Singapore fell due to the British under estimating the Japanese. The British had racial stereotypes. They thought that the Japanese were cross eyed, so they couldn't see properly and would shoot themselves, and that they had night blindness and couldn't see clearly in the night. Which was false. The Japanese had a strong military force, with the ability to destroy allied defences and managed to defeat british, australian, indian, local and malay troops to secure Singapore. The British was also fighting a war in Europe, as they were busy dealing with Nazi Germany that was moving in to capture the United Kingdom. A part of the Japanese being able to capture Singapore was due to them following the german's tactics of 'Blitzkrieg'. Which is a military tactic calculated to create psychological shock and resultant disorganization in enemy forces through the employment of surprise, speed, and superiority in material or firepower. They used it to fight back against the maginot line when the germans were fighting the french, and they won. Despite the British's best efforts to defend Singapore, Singapore, rumoured to be an impregnable fortress, it still fell to the japanese's hands.

I learned that Japanese invade southeast Asia for resources. There are resources such as coal, oil and rubber that Japanese need. Japanese would invade southeast Asia to get the resources that they need which they would not be able to obtain in their country.

2. Singapore fell because of both Japanese strengths and British weaknesses. The British thought they were an impregnable fortress and they anticipated that the Japanese would come from the north- east and continued to stay there and guard. However the Japanese went to capture the Bukit Timah area and thus letting singapore to lose all their vital food and fuel supply. At the same time, the British were racist and overconfident and said this like Japanese are like blind bats at night cannot shoot properly.

2) Singapore fell due to the British's weakness, which was underestimating the Japanese. The British thought they were an inpregnable fortress as it had many cannons stationed near the sea, as they thought the Japanese would invade by sea. And the high amount of air bases made the British felt they could concur any enemy who approaches them. Furthermore, due to the British's racism behavior, they underestimated the Japanese soldier for not having the ability to see through the night, which they would refer to as 'cross-eyed'. They were wrong. The Japanese were fast, fierce and aggressive, which was know as the 'Japanese blitz''. They're army power were strong, enough to overtake many countries. They were smarter than the British as well, which gave them the advantage to have a better plan which of course will counter the allied force's plan. Overall the Japanese were underestimated deeply by the British, thus made the allied force lost and surrendered.

2) I learnt that the Japanese invation was fast and sudden, and British had underestimated the Japanese (overconfident) and having the racism thought of Japanese, which made British fall.

I would say more of it was due to the Weakness of the British and the superiority of Japanese weapons and technology but many other factors also contributed such as no reinforcements and communication blunders.
Firstly, Mindset
The British were overconfident that they could handle the rising sun easily, therefore, underestimating the Japanese military might in all navy, air and army sectors. The British also felt that Singapore was a strategic location that protected the British interest in the Far East and thus made it an "impregnable fortress" further bolstering the mindset of an in- conquerable Singapore.
On the other hand, The Japanese were extremely aggressive and resilient to be as powerful and rich as the Third Reich in Germany. They also had to secure the rich natural resources in the Pacific, further motivating them to conquer and become the masters of the Pacific.
Secondly, Superiority of the Japanese military in terms of weapons and technology.
For example, British anti tank guns were rendered obsolete against the Japanese tanks. The British were also using old and outdated planes which was so bad that British piolets called them " Flying Coffins". The Japanese Navy also better than the Royal Navy in numerically and were also more modern.
Thirdly , Tactics
The with the superiority in tech, the Japanese had no doubt achieved air and navel superioriy. We all know that especially air supremecy is extremely
important during a battle as it can effectively blow targets out from the air and also with surprise of the enemy is unprepared, making it fatal for him/her. Japanese also had deceptive tactics that allowed less resistance against them. The Japanese also used surprise tactics such as attacking from the jungle where British weren't expecting. Communication blunders such as retreating to areas before Japanese attacked. British were also unable to sent reinforcement as they were needed in the European Theatre. Making any attempts of a counter-attack next to impossible due to lack of troops. Japanese troops were also experienced as they had fought a war with China also

Overall, Singapore's surrender was expected due to the carelessness such as sending 2 battleships alone without any air escorts and also the unpreparedness of the British Army. The fact that japan defeated an impregnable fortress is really plumming into new depths of irony.
To me, Singapore could have put a better fight against the might of the Rising Sun.
