Tanzanian Lake Mummifies Animals

A lake in Tanzania is naturally mummifying animals that die in the water. This is happening because the water's Ph level is so high. The water is this way because it is so high in alkaline. The Alkaline comes from a near by volcano that spews ash, that ultimately lands in the lake. Because of this, the animals in the lake pickle instead of decomposing. A photographer has taken interest in this lake, and moves these dead creatures to their natural environment, to take interesting photos of these deceased animals that still look very much alive. Though this type of fresh water can be hazardous to life, many organisms still thrive in the lake.
http://www.natureworldnews.com/articles/4316/20131004/tanzanian-lake-mummifies-animals.htm

Bill Gates Warns About the Potential Damage of Bioterrorism

Bill Gates has continuously spoken out about potential biological warfare, and just how much damage it could actually cause. Gates has publicly been donating to epidemic research facilities, he has donated over 460 million dollars of his own money to help research and prevention methods. Not only does he believe that a potential outbreak is possible, but he is positive that we will see one in the next 20 years or so. Gates also claims that government control can be the difference in preventing these outbreaks. As technology moves forward, biological warfare has become even more of a possibility. "Gates commented that an epidemic, either human-induced or naturally caused, could result to at least 10,000 excess deaths."
http://www.natureworldnews.com/articles/35137/20170120/bill-gates-warns-potential-damage-bioterrorism.htm

Donald Trump tells Detroit auto CEOs that environmental regulations are ‘out of control’

This week, President trump told ceo's of the auto industry that he will make a big push to decrease environmental regulations for those factories in the US. He also said that he would cut their taxes if they pledged to make more factories in the US. Trump has don this to create more US jobs. Though this may mean more jobs, it also means for pollution and CO2 emissions. Trump has been very public with his stance on Global Warming and how he doesn't believe in it. With Trump making these new policies, it could prove to be detrimental to the environment. He also stated that he would lay a hefty border taxon those companies that manufacture in Mexico. Though this may help create jobs and also help stimulate the economy, it will hurt the environment in the long run.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/innovations/wp/2017/01/24/donald-trump-tells-detroit-auto-ceos-environmental-regulations-are-out-of-control/?utm_term=.fbcf230d7e9f

New Jersey Pineland

In 2014 New Jersey governor Chris Christy failed to get a pipeline put in the protected pine lands. This pipeline would have carried natural gas from facilities. After a few executive hires, New Jersey is once again trying to pass this legislature to get the pipeline established. Now that Trumo has been president, and is also a big advocate for pipelines, maybe the outcome could be different this time. Trump just has recently approved a pipe going through North Dakota, which may influence other future pipelines. Trump has made his stance more than clear, that he cares more about jobs than the environment. But if he keeps going in the direction that he is, global warming could possibly desimate more jobs in the long run. This NJ pipeline should prove interesting to the environmental community, as it may influence more future descisions. Most of the concern comes because of the pine lands. Environmentalist claim that it's a fragile ecosystem that shouldn't be harmed for a pipeline. This topic has been hotly debated and will
Be interesting to see what will happen when the descision comes through.
http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/wireStory/jobs-versus-environment-square-off-pipeline-vote-45001057

Most of Environment still deteriorating

The U.K. Has said that most of their natural environment is still deteriorating even with efforts to help stop all sorts of pollution. The U.K. Is trying to put a plan in action to help their environment recover in a 25 year span. They also want to be the first generation to leave the environment better than they found it. These efforts would include flood control, soil control, and emission control as well as energy consumption. Many parts of UKs land is constantly flooding and being ruined, causeinf more deterioration. This plan will help restore and improve the environmental condition. They plan to have this plan goin before 2020. Originally, the plan would have taken a lot longer, but as conditions have been worsening, they want to speed this up and get it into action as soon as possible. UK isn't the only nation taking drastic measures to improve their environment, but most European nations are doing the same. Most are setting a great example for the rest of the earth, but it seems as though The US has taken a great step backward with newly elected president Trump at the helm of it all. As he tries to reverse Most of Barak Obamas work for the environment.
http://www.cumnockchronicle.com/news/15044896.Much_of_natural_environment_still_deteriorating__warns_report/

These robots kill the species by shocking, or poisoning. These robots have been effectively killing starfish that have been destroying coral reefs.
Floating wind Farms - wind farms have been growing in popularity in the renewable energy field. In 2017, wind farms on floating ocean platforms should be much more common. These platforms are very effective by storing energy forgot ocean wind that spins a turbine.
Bionic leaves - artificial leaves are being made to capture the suns energy. It is based off of how a leaf captures energy, but these new bionic leaves are 10x more efficient. This new technology is very exciting for the solar energy community.
Socking Away CO2 - scientists have found a new way to store CO2, by dissolving it into water and shooting into balastic rock. This method has been proved to be 95% effective, and may be used more in 2017.
Downside of Cleanups - as cleaning of landfills has been in session, many scavenging animals are having a tough time adjusting.
