Because of a person's race or language that they speak it could be easily misunderstood . This could make positive or negative change in a persons life. In comparison to Huckleberry Finn many people couldn't understand Jim because he was uneducated since he grew up as a slave. This shows a step back in the US, since there is a language barrier that still happens today. Even though our country has barriers that divide one person from another people are still trying to find ways to change these issues to make everyone feel equal. Some of these barriers cause issues that people don't attend to have happen but they happen because some people have never learned to deal with them. These could come across as discrimination but people are just trying to help others.

This gives a different view on the book and how a one time read could feel like discrimination, yet everyone has a different perspective on the book and it's true meaning. The issues that happened in the book Huckleberry Finn still happen in everyday life some people don't realize this. This is represented through the article "Most Americans think their own group faces discrimination." Which has strong similarities with the basis of Huckleberry Finn since it shows that discrimination has decreased but yet hasn't gone away. It still hasn't gone away which means that it is still major issue in society today. Toni Morrison states that the first read of Huckleberry Finn was " deeply disturbing" this was because it was under no guidance to read this book. She decided to read it on her own terms with no knowledge of the book and what it was about. Toni then read it again in junior high which gave her a different view on the book when she starts " this wasn't much less uncomfortable" which helps to explain her true feelings of the book and how it connects to her personally.

Every group claims to face discrimination everyday which could be true but the worst is the African Americans. The fear of discrimination that they have been experiencing has lead to an influence on their decision making. Which statistics show has lead to African Americans believing that they will be discriminated against again because of past experiences. This is a step backwards in society because the US still hasn't found a way to lessen the discrimination that is happening in the country today. The issues in the society today have lead to African American people being to scared to go to the doctors or feeling that everywhere they go they will experience this. This compares to Huck Finn since Jim has to experience similar things that happen still today, even though at that time it was experienced way more due to slavery it doesn't mean that it doesn't happen today. Progress has been made but not enough to make people feel otherwise about this issue.

Skin color is a huge part of discrimination. A man and a women take advantage of a boy because of his skin color. Even though a women doesn't paint an African American boy anymore, doesn't mean that being taken advantage of because of skin color doesn't happen often. Through the article "Most Americans think their own group faces discrimination" shows that people are taken advantage of all the time due to their physical appearance. For example when a African American tries to rent a house he is faced with discrimination Skin color is also affected when a looking for an African American male all males will be pulled over just in case because they are believed to be a suspect due to how they look. This shows that these type of issues still happen at places like school, work the grocery store etc. Langston Hughes helps to show this disrespect that white people have towards the African Americans since they have a belief that they are created superior.

People have been subjected to taking the ideas of diversity and making it an idea for discrimination. The idea of discrimination or divide of races started during colonial times and it's still an issue today. Even after all of the fighting for freedom the US today still has moral problems since everyone isn't treated equally.White people are seemed to believe that they have an advantage because they believe to think that they are a higher race since they are a majority in the United States. Laws were even past to strengthen this issue when preventing the rights of the individuals in the minorities. The discrimination that was felt was because of the isolation that these laws created for them . Isolation became a major aspect when it came to the idea of schooling since the numbers in African Americans compared to Whites that enrolled in schools were very drastic since many African Americans were not educated and they couldn't support the costs of the enrollment fees. These were factors that's caused minorities to drop down in schools. Which isn't directly identifying discrimination but it shows the knowledge that the school has of the idea that some may not be able to afford to go to school.Which ends up being the African American people who have the low income families. 1954 was supposed to be the end of the idea that the majority and minorities are separated. This issue still happens today. We have certain laws that are supposed to help to protect the idea of going against discrimination and that one person either teacher nor student should be discriminated against by anyone else. Yes, there is still physical discrimination but the true discrimination happens within the laws and the government and what is actually provided for minorities in this country today. This represents that society is taking a step forwards by creating these laws for the minorities but, still is taking a step backwards because people haven't made any advances to change them.

The N-word:An interactive project to explore a singular word

It has been discovered in the US today, that white people believe that it is okay to use the N word in music, television production and other sources of the internet.African American people are disgusted by these actions because there is history behind this word that white people abuse by just simply stating the word. There seems to be a disrespect when the word is used because it seems to be felt as to be abused by the majority of people. African American parents believe that they have to prepare their children to go to school and have to hear this word thrown at them. This single word sets a divide between two groups of people. These are a group that is offended by the word and a group that abuses the word. African Americans believe that that the word should never be used the way that it is used today since it is dehumanizing to people.TThrough research it shows that there is a difference between using the word with an -a at the end versus an -r the a was used between two african American children as used to describe "dude" rather than the -r which is supposed to be used aggressively or "derogatory" which was stated by Lantia Jacobs and Patricia Wilson. People don't understand that they are discriminating other people it is just the way that they are taught things that makes it seem that way to one person or another. This issue represents that society is taking a step back because everyday this word is abused and their has been no advances in fixing this issue.

White Boy Privilege

It's shown that men have things handed to them and they are always treated with respect and are never taken for granted. Women and other Minority races are not treated with this advantage. White men believe that they are not able to accomplish goals like men can. White men are the majority so they think that they can do and say what they want without believing that they will be criticized for it. Royce Mann mentioned that it's embarrassing how the United States treats people based on their race, skin color and even gender. Which opens eyes on how discrimination is truly happening throughout the country without knowledge. It all is based around how a person is taught to speak, treat or understand the people around them. This idea was also described in the video "The N-word:An Interactive project to explore a singular word" these two bring together the idea that people aren't treated with the respect that they should be because of the way they look. Which gives an understanding that our society is taking a major step back in the idea of making everyone feel like they are part of a community rather than isolated.

Colleges stand by diversity policies:Affirmative action target the feds, who cite discrimination

Since colleges are finally starting to accept people of different races into their colleges, it is starting to look like they are going against white people and their rights. Trump is starting to look into colleges and their ideas of diversity. Colleges have started to look at race as a factor in making decisions because they want to have a more diverse campus. This shows that "white privilege" has a huge part of what happens throughout our society. In "white Boy privilege" by Royce Mann he states "maybe the ladder that we have currently can become a bridge in the future." This brings up the concept that minorities could have a strong outcome also. which they can be accepted for who they are and they finally get an advantage in society.Instead Trump is going against this idea and believes that white men are getting discriminated against. Since a few campuses want to make a change and change what has been given to them. Since white privilege doesn't come to play and their views are shifted then it becomes an issue. For example Maine is a mostly white state so The University of Maine's population is 95 percent white,1.1 percent black,1.5 percent Asian and 1.7 percent American Indian. This represents the idea that minorities are barely represented at all and gives a pure example of why colleges are trying to strive to gain more of a diverse campus. Rather than helping it's actually leading people away since the presidents belief is towards benefiting the majority rather than the minorities. This issue shows how society is starting to create an acceptance for minorities but the government is still preventing this from happening. Society has ended up still taking a step back since allowing minorities into colleges is becoming a law issue.

Publics Around The World say Governments should Act to prevent Racial Discrimination

Most large countries believe that discrimination is a major issue that needs to be resolved and that every race should be treated equally. Across the world 90 percent of people believe that it is important to treat people equally and only 13 percent of people believe otherwise. Many think that the government should be involved to make this happen. It's been recognized that the issue of equality has definitely been improved over the years but still there is room for improvement. The reason this issue has come about is because people don't understand how to make a change or how to stop the issue. People are starting to recognize this as an issue which they haven't before since the actions that they portray have always been thought to be acceptable. This is showing "white privilege" and how the concept is portrayed through reality and is represented throughout societies today. Often enough people don't realize what they are doing is wrong and they don't want to held responsible if they are. While listening to "white boy privilege" Royce Mann talks about respect and how white men are thought to have a "safety blanket" and they are not susceptible anything around them. Since they have the advantage of being the majority. Society has never learned how to deal with the issue of discrimination. So society has never never taken a step forward or sideways, it's only gone backwards due to this issue.

Discrimination

It's come to a realization that through certain situations it has been shown that one group of people could be picked over another group of people. This is thought to be discrimination or "unequal" since one group is being prioritized over another one. In the real world, people have started to bring in their own beliefs when making decisions. This has started to create the issue of discrimination against certain races due to the concept of people making decisions through a persons ability rather than a persons race. This brings attention to the concept that large businesses and people are believing in making the idea of everyone being created equal happen. Even though in the book "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" it shows the hard times that Jim had to go through to get to the place that he wanted to be which was freedom. It gives a new understanding to how far our country has finally come to give minorities rights too. It gives a new perspective that even though their is a believed ladder that minorities will always feel like they have to climb. Someday it will become a bridge that everyone can stand on equally. What is still stopping this idea of equality from happening is a persons fear of the unknown. For example a women may not want to be examined by a African American male doctor. This could be shaped by her beliefs in which she has been taught throughout her life. This is still showing that society is trying to take a step forward and has the ideas to do so, yet they can't figure out to make the ideas into an action. This is why society is still taking steps back instead of forward in the concept of equality.
