The smaller German states felt like they were unable to protect themselves from the larger states. Otto Von Bismarck had Prussian dominance over Germany. The 7 week's war was to unify Germany. That's how Prussia got control over Northern Germany. The Prussian War helped Germany realize Prussia had control over them.

Otto Von Bismarck was the prime minister of Prussia and the first chancellor of Germany. He was loyal to the monarchy and he was rewarded from that. He realized that the normal was putting Prussia in second place. He was on Napoleon the third's court and was an ambassador in France. Bismarck also remained prime minister of Prussia for a short period of time.

When Napoleon invaded Italy, he created the Kingdom of Italy in the North. When he defeated Italy, they reverted back to independent states. The revolutions then swept across Europe, then Sicilians fought for independence from Naples and Rome. This revolution was led by Giuseppe Mazzini. He helped bring Italy into full unity with one another.

Giuseppe Mazzini was the biggest leader in the Risorgimento, which was an Italian movement to unify Italy. He refused to participate in their government that was established under the House of Savoy. As a child, he was extremely intellectual. He was a member of the Carbonari, that tried to overthrow absolute rule in Italy. He also exposed those who don't want Italy to have absolute freedom.

During the Napoleonic Wars, the British was helping the Portuguese family escape Europe to set up court in Brazil. They expanded Brazil by invading Uruguay in 1816. Portugal was mainly governed by the British during these times, but wanted King John to write up a new constitution for them. King John left his son Pedro to rule in his place, but he took a lower position of being the Prince of Brazil instead. This would be making Brazil a colony again and all other governments would be subordinates of Portugal.

Prince Dom Pedro was the first emperor of Brazil and is also known as King Pedro of Portugal. When Napoleon conquered Portugal, he accompanied the royal family in its fight to win Brazil. He often surrounded himself with ministers who counseled independence. Within three months of returning to Lisbon he was crowned emperor. His reign brought stability into a troubled economy.
