Language Passport is a self-assessment tool for language skills and qualifications., indeed it describes to detail their own language abilities. Language Passport serves various pedagogical functions. It would be useful for teachers and students to have a Language Art Passport. I have not experienced the language passport yet, but I would like to prepare it in this way: each pupils write something about their foreign friend's history using his native language for example a student can write some words in French about his friend or if his friend is English, some words about him in English and so on with other students of the classroom, in order to create a multilingual activity.
At the end I,'ll start a conversation with all students related to the words they wrote.

I can prepare my own language passport, by writing. I use these languages: Italian, English, German, Dialect, French. GREEN; I use Italian with my family, friends, pupils, colleagues, with the people of my town and nation. I use English with my daughters, my study and my pupils at school. I use German with my German friends, when I call them and I write to them, and when I go to Germany. I also use German when I read some books. I use Dialect with my family and friends. I use French when I go to France and when I want to say something in French. RED: I use Italian everywhere, English at school, German in Germany or at home, Dialect at home, French only seldom, there isn't a place in Italy where I use only French. BLUE: sometimes, when there are some situations, I remember the titles of the books I read in English or German, and these titles summarise that situation. For example: "Und sagte kein einziges Wort" ( Heinrich Boll) . PURPLE: I use Italian, English, Dialect every day; German once a week, and sometimes when I think. Is it enough for today?

I didn't colour code mine as I didn't have the colours to hand - as a monolingual I was surprised to see how many other languages I do use and will complete this task with my pupils when I next see them. I might even do it when I next train staff to share a simple idea.

The linguistic passport is a very useful and motivating tool. In my school there are foreign children and I will certainly pose to the teachers of the classes in which they are entering the use of the linguistic passport.

I think that the Language Passport is a very interesting activity but I don't know how to adapt it to my secondary school students. I think that they are not still properly aware of the languages they use and in which context so this kind of activity could be very useful but certainly not enough. The activity should be finalised to something as for example collecting data from all the school and elaborate them with graphics, diagrams and so on using ICT tools. It could be a good idea, students can use English to improve their linguistic competence in L2 and they can learn how to elaborate data worksheets and how to learn and comment them

My language Passport
I can refer to only three or four languages. I speak Italian in every place and contest, I'm an Italian teacher : I adore my mother tongue and I use it with my children, my husband, my friends. But I am also a Latin teacher : Latin is not a spoken language , so I use it when I explain grammar rules and when we read Latin classical authors. I sometimes think in Latin: a logical, fascinating, precise language.
My third language is my dialect, Bergamasco. I use it with my old father, some of my relatives and in some occasions with my friends too, in relaxed contests and especially for fun.
The last one is English : I am studying it for a certification. Is is the language of my English course, of the online course too and the one I chose for CLIL classes. I used it a lot of times during travels , but I am not so confident.

Language passport is a very creating activity I have never used. It is useful for teacher to integrate pupil's home languages into the classroom practice and help pupils to know their linguistic competencies and skills and the repertoire of their language. Through passport teachers create a place that embraces, valorises language diversity. Students can share the words they found and I think it is captivating becouse you can use different coluour for a specific field or foreign language you know. I will try as soon as possible in my class.

in one of my classes there are two foreign children that know Italian quite well. My ideafor creating a language passport would be starting from their basic needs using Italian , English, Albanian and Portuguese. I prepared a language passport for my students about words we used during our lesson. I used a very useful tool called Flippity. It allows to create flashcards so you can write a word on one side in Italian for instance and on the other side the same word in another language, for instance in English. In this way students could see immediately the differences and similarities in the two languages. It is possible to listening the pronunciation in both languages.

This is a useful exercise. I found it interesting to note the skills I use in each of my languages. I write formally in English lots but I write very little in my other languages and when I do it is usually informal e.g. notes, emails or texts. I read lots in all four but speak mostly in just two.

This is a really useful activity and I’m going to introduce it in my classrooms as soon as possible. I teach English as a foreign language at an Italian secondary high school and the language passport could be a great opportunity to make students realize how many foreign words they already know and use in everyday speech. A language passport is a fantastic tool to help students review of all the languages they can use to a greater or lesser extent, which may turn out to be useful especially when approaching subject contents for the first time in a completely new context (i.e, a new school, a new class group, etc.). Even partial competences in some languages only can be useful: a student, for example, may be able to read in a language but not speak it very well, so the teaching & learning approach should take this into account. The result may be a stress free situation where students my learn and produce at their best.

I found it this activity interesting and very useful to reflect about how many times I have been using spontaneously English since last July.
I realized also that so often I use a language or a dialect without paying attention of doing that.
For example, I did not realize before how often I am using English for different purposes (course attendance, reading/revising materials, preparing lessons for CLIL class, writing in internet, listening to video clips to select etc. The language passport will surely enjoy multilingual and not plurilingual students and make them awareness of their language resources.

I've never used the language passport before and I really enjoyed creating mine. I'm sure that it offers an opportunity both for children and students to talk about language diversity. I can't stand using it in my classrooms. Here my first and very simple Language Passport.

Great idea! But there aren't bilingual students in my class. In case the Italian boy/girl types our school

An idea to create a language passport could be using Tagul to create a tag cloud , students like it. i usually let them make different clouds, with hobbies, sports, clothes they choose a shape and we see them. Using multiculture we could invite them to write CIAO in different languages as this one I did.

I usually use Hindi with family, friends ,as informal talk and use English as formal language with my teachers'. and my students and some time with my peer group. These two languages are my language passport.

This was such a wonderful assignment. Here is my language passport;
Finnish & English: work, family, friends, I often think in English & dream in Finnish, childhood & family, bilingual thus both languages as strong (reading, writing, speaking), Hungarian, home & love, with husband (petnames, cuddling etc), Swedish history & work, with some friends, makes me think of ancestors, French - makes me think of kindergarten and singing, sometimes at work and about history, German - with my cousin's husband (actually with English and Finnish), weakest language, Italian - history! in Italian restaurants anywhere etc...

It's interesting. I think that this activity is better fora a primary school class, where teacher is only who can manage Language passport. In the other grade of education it's less compatible with specific discipline.
